ipod nano partial file deletion

I had a largish movie (300mb) on my nano which i deleted and then plugged it into usb without looking at the screen. i believe i plugged into usb before the file was deleted and rockbox locked up. i restarted it with menu+select and it went into usb mode on my computer. the movie file shows up as 0 bytes and if I delete it I dont get my 300mb back, and the file seems to come back on its own.

anyway I can fix this? or should i backup my files from the nano and format?
