Backlight on demand only
« on: November 28, 2011, 06:11:17 PM »
Hi there, I have an iriver h120 running rockbox and I love it, but I just thought of one cool feature that I would love to have: on demand light.

I found that the backlight on the player drains a significant amount of battery, particular on things like volume adjustments where you don't even actually need the light, so I completely disabled it.

I have found that 90% of the time you really don't need a backlight anyways. But for that 10% of the time you do need it, it would be nice to have a re-purposed button that could turn on the backlight for whatever your current backlight settings are.

For example, you could use the already present "hotkey" function and just add a setting for backlight, so the record button would just turn the light on.

I could be wrong, but I don't think this would be that difficult to code (I know, easy to say when I'm not the one coding it!)

This sounds like it might do what you want:

FS#9305 - Context sensitive backlight on key press

Or at least be a good starting point for you to hack together something.

Exactly what I would like to see as well. My Clip+ loses a lot of battery simply because of my adjusting volume and pausing music.
