sansa e260 hangs up
« on: December 14, 2010, 10:34:21 PM »
I installed rockbox some time ago and it worked well, but one day I was turning it off and it hanged up. I held the power button until it powered off, and now everytime I try to access anything in the flash memory (song list, plugins, etc) it hangs up.

If I boot into the original firmware I can play songs but it only shows me the songs that I had before installing rockbox, even the ones that I deleted.

If I conect it to my pc (on windows or linux, on original firmware mass mode or rockbox) it seems to be fine until I mount it or try to access its folder, it makes the explorer hang up until I disconnect the player. When rockbox utility tries to mount it it also hangs.

If I connect it to windows on MTP mode, it works fine, I can view all folders and files, I can write and delete, but it doesn't show the changes in the original firmware and rockbox keeps hanging up.
Something that I noticed is that there are some strange files in the music folder, all of them have a 1 char name, some have no name, and they all have between 7.5 and 8 kb size. I tried moving or deleting those files but it does nothing.

What can I do to fix it? connect it in mtp mode and reinstalling the original firmware would work?
help me, please
thanks

It sounds like the file system is damaged.  Try connecting in MSC mode and running a file system checking utility (like chkdsk on Windows).

the problem is that I can't mount it in MSC mode, only in MTP
is there a way to reinstall the firmware or format and restore everything in MTP mode?

You don't have to mount a filesystem in order to check it

error checking didn't work

I fixed it by deleting all the songs in mtp mode, there were some folders that didn't let me delete, but deleting the parent folder worked. After that I could connect it in msc mode, but it showed that space was half full, so I formated it, and now it works fine.

Formatting should eliminate errors in the file system too.
