iPod 1st gen scroll whell does not respond in rockbox only

Not much else to say really. It works flawlessly with the original firmware (even when rockbox is installed) but wont turn the menu stripe or prevent the back light turning off in rockbox itself. This is my first venture into ipod linux so any help would be greatly appreciated.

I'm using the first gen ipod below, however the harddrive has been swapped for that of a 20gb 4th gen. Not sure if that's relevant?

Also, what does linux have to do with this?

You might want to try a build including the mentioned patch. I did one a bit ago for someone asking on IRC. Note that this is an unsupported build and I won't provide any support or updates -- it's just for your convenience (and due to the fact that I haven't deleted the build from the webserver).

Why hasn't that patch been committed?  It seems good to fix such an issue.  Or is it a hack that will break some other model?  If so, an explanation on the tracker would be useful.

As far as I know, it shouldn't break anything, and it has apparently worked for every 1G user that tried it.

However the 1G and 2G share a build, and only some 1Gs need the patch. I doubt many other 1G users and virtually no 2G users will have tried the patch (as they have no need!).

My suggestion would be put it in SVN prior to 3.2, to 'force' all 1G and 2G users to test it. If it screws up, revert prior to 3.2.

I think we should extensively have this patch tested in SVN, to see whether or not it'll break anything else. This problem has been long outstanding, and I was wondering why no one took care of it sooner. I don't have a 1G iPod, but I've tried the patch out and it didn't break anything on my 2G iPod.

I forgot to mention in my previous post that I've tested the patch on my 2G iPod on a variety of builds over the past months, and it didn't break anything.

I thought I'd give rockbox another chance and it seems it still will not work on a very early 1st gen ipod (scroll wheel does not work)
It looks like I need to give up on this for good unless someone has one of the patched versions available. The links posted seem to be dead :O(

I had downloaded the VMWare Debian ISO and was busy trying to work out how to do the patch but I am not too up on my linux...
