rbutil - The Rockbox Utility needs you help !! (testing)
« on: February 09, 2008, 03:43:17 PM »
Hi folks

rbutil http://www.rockbox.org/twiki/bin/view/Main/RockboxUtility , this is the upcoming, one and only installer and housekeeping utility for Rockbox.

It can do:
- Install Bootloader
- Install Rockbox
- Install Fontpack
- Install Doomfiles
- Install Themes (with a nice preview)
- Install Voicefiles
- Create Voicefiles
- Create Talkfiles
- Selectifly Uninstall everthing from above.

all from a nice and easy GUI.

Now we need your help, as we want to release a new version of this utility, if possible without too much bugs.
So we need your help testing all functionality and report all Bugs you can find.
Please put those reports in the Patch tracker.

You can find a new prerelease windows binary at:
http://www.stud.uni-karlsruhe.de/~uhcn/rockbox/rbutil/rbutilqt-v1.0.4pre.zip
(maybe others could provide svn builds for linux and mac ? )

of course you can also build it yourself from svn, if you can :-)

We are interested in every feedback !

------------------------

There is also the new upcoming Console Interface for this Utility.
This console interface is mainly meant for blind and visually imparied Users, as the GUI version isnt very accessible.

This also need heavy testing, as it very new.

Also the menus of this version isnt completed.
(themes and uninstallation is missing).
And we are interested also in Hints how to improve the cli interface and its menus.

You can find a windows binary at:
http://www.b23.org/~domonoky/rbutilcli.exe

The patch for this is in the Tracker (FS#8571).

So happy testing, and please report !

greetings,
Domonoky

I've made an announcement of Rockbox Utility in the Announcements forums quite a while back when it was initially released to the public. See http://forums.rockbox.org/index.php?topic=12395.0 for additional notes about Rockbox Utility

Could not find an open patch in the tracker for the ui version to add bugs to.
The only open one appears to be the cli one that you have already referenced, you don't want this used do you?

I am trying to generate a Hindi voice file using espeak hi. I have downloaded the latest version and have set it up like so in the screenshots. I am getting a 3kb voice file which can't possibly be right. And I already tried to generate an English voice file which worked fine.

And awesome work, but I think that you guys need to update the themes available because there are a lot more available on rockbox-themes.org page.

About the failing hindi voicefile:
Does it work to create a hindi voice file with the normal build system ?
If not: it probably a fault in the hindi voice file.
If it works, the Bug maybe in the Genlang.cgi script which creates and delivers the voice strings for rbutil.

About the Themes: they are fetched from rockbox-themes.org. But the themes are filtered so that you only get Themes which work on unmodified builds. So thats why you get lesser themes than on the page.

Then the build it tried to download was not found. Shouldn't be a bug of Rockbox Utility. Can you still reproduce this? And what build are you trying to update to?

Hi,

the 404 error was indeed a bug in rbutil. It used a wrong URL for h10. it should now be fixed in SVN.

About the voice creation:
i just tried to generate a german voice file, and it works. I used Sapi5 and rbspeex on windows.

Were there any error messages when you generated your broken voice file ?
Which TTS did you use ?

Thanxs for testing..

I stand corrected ... me thought this was recently fixed. Looks like I mixed it up with a similar bug.

I put a new binary online at http://www.stud.uni-karlsruhe.de/~uhcn/rockbox/rbutil/rbutilqt-v1.0.4pre.zip

Hello Domonkey,

sorry for my late reply.

No, the file is obviously to small.

Code: [Select]
About the voice creation:

I did the same. Maybe it's a Vista problem. I'll give it a try on my kid's PC.

The talk files menu generats an error message. "encoding of ... /_dirname.talk.wav failed". I asume this depends on using voicebox which works propely.

I'm using the latest version (m1.0.4 build 16357) on Vista with my Iriver H140 and I'm having a few problems with voice file generation.

When I try to generate the .talk files for my music it halts every time on one particular file and gives the message

Encoding of G:/Music/S/Sigur Rós/Ágætis Byrjun/cover.bmp.talk.wav failed

(I don't actually want to generate talk files for my cover.bmps but currently I couldn't find an option to turn that off.)

I'm using the Rockbox Speex Encoder and the Sapi TTS Engine (with all the defaults for those)

If I use the old voiceBox.hta script I can generate the talk files fine.

If I try to generate an English voice file the procedure runs through fine and creates a new file on but the phrases voiced don't actually match the menu options highlighted -for example

Settings > manage settings voices "settings loaded"
Settings > Theme Settings is silent
Settings > Recording settings is silent
Settings > Sound Settings is silent
Settings > General Settings voices correctly
Settings > General Settings > Bookmarking voices "yes, recent only"  etc.

Is it possible the utility is getting the wrong menu description for the device?

to Jancen:
Please try again, there was a bug in the sapi script, which failed to correctly select the voice.

to Neff:
about the non-matching voicefile: there was a bug, so that the Target string in the rockbox-info.txt file (in the .rockbox dir on your player) was empty. If you install a new build, or enter the target name yourself into that file, the voice generation should work again.

About the talk generation:
i dont know why the encoding of this file failes, maybe you can disable the deleting of the wavfiles, and inspect it, or upload this wavfile somewhere..

Maybe i should also change the code, so that it continues even if the encoding of some files fail.. :-)
perhaps i also should add an option to specify file extensions to ignore... (or the otherwayround ? )

greets, and thanks for testing.

I downloaded the latest daily bild and installed. The rockbox-info.txt file now reads

Target:
Target id: 9
Target define: -DIRIVER_H120
Memory: 32
CPU: coldfire
Manufacturer: iriver
Version: r16414-080225
Binary: rockbox.iriver
Binary size: 390736
Actual size: 390728
RAM usage: 815192
Features: agc:backlight_fade:dircache:hold_button:lcd_bitmap:lcd_non-mono:lcd_flip:
lcd_invert:pitchscreen:quickscreen:radio:recording:recording_swcodec:
remote:remote_ticking:spdif_power:swcodec:tagcache:tc_ramcache:charging
gcc: m68k-elf-gcc (GCC) 3.4.6
ld: GNU ld version 2.16
Host gcc: gcc (GCC) 4.2.3 (Debian 4.2.3-1)
Host system: Linux

However the results of the voice file generation is, if anything, worse. The only voiced option I've found so far is Settings > Theme Settings which is voiced as "Save file type".

I disabled the remove .wav file option to get at the problem .wav file but oddly after the halt the file was not there (G:/Music/S/Sigur Rós/Ágætis Byrjun/cover.bmp.talk.wav). I'm wondering if the accents have anything to do with it?

One other thing I did discover is that If I have "overwrite talk files" enabled it fails immediately with the message

Encoding of G:/Music/_dirname.talk.wav failed

And that .wav file does exist but plays fine in Windows Media Player 11 and Winamp 5.52
