Title: X5L doesnt even start to upgrade?
Post by: maxinat0r on September 26, 2007, 06:45:31 AM
Hi folks,
today I wanted to install rockbox on my X5l. At first i tried to do it with the 'automated installation'
which didn't work. Then i did it manually but this didnt work either.  :(

Following 'error' happens every time:

I install the bootloader and rockbox, remove the USB-Plug and begin to charge the damn thing. Instead of starting to upgrade the thing boots the regular x5l firmware (2.10e).

What can i do to install rockbox?!

Are you following the instructions in the manual?

http://download.rockbox.org/manual/rockbox-iaudiox5/rockbox-buildch2.html#x4-110002.3.2

Make sure you extract the firmware to the root of your player, so that you see a folder called .rockbox in the iAUDIO's drive. Also, make sure you're downloading the right bootloader. The file should be named x5_fw.bin, and it should be copied to the FIRMWARE folder. Once that's done, then remove the USB cable and insert the charger.

Both of your advices have already fallowed by me... I paste the .rockbox folder at the root directory
remove the player from the pc and link it with the charger. :  7

edit: is it normal that the x5_fw.bin file doesn't vanish after i plugged the player into the charger?
also i dont get a 'firmware update' prompt.

That's strange. It should start the firmware update upon plugging into the charger. Are you copying the x5_fw.bin file into a folder called FIRMWARE in the root of the drive?

Also make sure that the device is OFF when you insert the charger. It only checks for the upgrade file when it boots.
