Title: Can't delete ./rockbox from Sansa e280
Post by: Khan on June 04, 2007, 10:37:07 PM
Ok so, this is pretty weird. No matter what I have tried, I cannot remove the ./rockbox from the root of my Sansa e280. It spits out a "Cannot delete file "./rockbox/blah/blah". Read-only files system" error. I checked permissions on this directory and I have full rights. I also get this error as root. I can delete and add files from the rest of the directory structure. It's only the rockbox directory that is throwing this error. Recommendations?

already tried chkdsk /f? Sounds like problems with the file system.

Note to self: Don't read forum postings at 5:30 am. Obviously, I've been working in Linux too long. I kept looking at this and saying: "chkdsk?...chkdsk??...chkdsk???...wtf?" Then the coffee kicked in.   ;D

Anyway, I ran chkdsk /f and indeed, there was something hosed with the file system. After it fixed it and the Sansa rebooted, I was able to delete the .rockbox directory. Thanks for the help, bluebrother.

Maybe the typo is in your posting, but you may want to double check your directory name.  Rockbox uses the /.rockbox directory.  The leading period is part of the directory name.

The typo was in my posting...Rockbox was indeed installed to /.rockbox
I just was tired when I posted to the forum...not enough caffeine again   ;D Regardless, I was able to remove it, install a fresh copy and now my Sansa is running nicely. Just waiting for the USB plug-in to actually mount the partition so that I no longer have to boot into the original firmware whenever I want to transfer files over.
