Title: Wiki help
Post by: wrecker on August 24, 2005, 07:30:16 AM
I'm not a coder, so yesterday I was doing my bit to aid the Rockbox "cause", and updated the WikiManual Main Menu page quite heavily (Revisions 1.4 and 1.5 - Wiki name - EdSolman).

When I was previewing my changes, I noticed that the fonts used for Headings 3 & 4 (i.e. ---+++ and ---++++) seemed to have gone a bit wrong in places and I couldn't work out if I'd done anything wrong. I tried to put extra line breaks around them, but this didn't work. In the end Ijust commited the changes anyway.

Example:
1) Go to the Wiki Manual Main menu page - here (http://www.rockbox.org/twiki/bin/view/Main/ManualMainMenu)
2) Go to the "FFwd/Rewind" section under the "General Settings" menu
3) In my update, the "FFwd/Rewind" label is set in Wiki to Heading level 3 (---+++).
4) The two sub-categories underneath ("FF/RW Min Step" and "FF/RW Min Accel") are at Heading level 4 (---++++).

I checked and double-checked my Wiki update and these were definitely set right.

So, why do the level 3 header appear in the smaller level 4 font and vice versa??

Can anyone let me know what I did wrong??

I'm so confused.....

That's very strange.  I wonder if it has anything to do with the fact that "FFwd," with its mixed capitalization, looks like a wiki word?

looks like linus has fixed it for you. take a look.

No, Linus is doing something else.  The problem that wrecker noted still remains.

(When I created the wiki manual pages, I named them MainMenu, FileMenu, etc.  Linus is changing them to ManualMainMenu, ManualFileMenu, etc.  Linus, if you happen to read this, is there a wiki page naming protocol that I should be following?)

hes changing it to be clear that its part of the wikimanual i think. he seems to want to keep the wikimanual and the docs separate.

Exactly.

So, I think my point still remains. Is this just something to do with Wiki itself or have I done something wrong?

When I look at that wiki page, the level 3 heading is larger than level 4. I can't see anything wrong.

I'm using FIrefox on Debian.

Linus

Are you looking at the example I gavce in my first post, i.e. the FFwd/RW entry?
I'll attach a screenshot of what I an seeing....

In the Wiki code, the 'FFwd/Rewind' is set to level 3 (---+++)
and the 'FF/RW Min Step' below is set to level 4 (---++++), yet shows up in a larger font.

I've been using IE6 for viewing this page,. I've just tried a few thing sout and found that if I set the text size to 'smallest' from the View-> text size option, it shows OK. (Screen shot attached with new settings).

For some reason, IE seems to resize the level 4 text, but not the level 3.

Sorry to cause lots of confusion, I think this may just be me using dodgy Microsoft products...
 ;)

I'll switch to Firefox immediately. ;D

Well, as good as my word.

I've just installed Firefox and guess what?

Yep, no font size issues. The Wiki manual looks fine.

I feel stupid.

Don't feel too stupid.  I'm using Firefox 1.0.6 on Windows, and it shows exactly as it was in your screen shot from IE.  I'm going to chalk it up to gremlins.

muchos weirdness, amigo.

Anyway, perhaps I should just stop worrying about such trivial matters as font sizes on web pages and start concerning myself with more important issues, such as world poverty, global warming, the middle east crisis and global terrorism ....
