Title: change to next directory feature not reliable??
Post by: cosmocat on August 13, 2007, 04:59:28 PM
I use rockbox for quite some years on my H140.

I rarely use the "change to the next directory" feature with the pad by pressing shortly the RIGHT button then a long press in the RIGHT button.

But for the few times I use this feature, I think that there is a little bug because rockbox crash approximately 3 times for 5 tries. When the player is crashed, it try to read on the harddrive (because the light is turned on) and never stop. And the player don't react to any button pressed (even the play or stop button long press).

Obviously, I have tried lots of differents rockbox version (and it's quite an old bug...).

If someone can confirm or reproduce the bug....

thanks in advance for your answers.

Hey this is a feature I didn't know about.  I just looked in the manual and wiki, but I cant find anything about it, how did you find out about this?  It doesn't seem to crash for me (ipod 4g grayscale), I'll definitely make use of this one!

This is a feature of the original iRiver H1xx firmware, that some of us really lobbied for with Rockbox--luckily, some devs. agreed.  It is greatly handy for 1-handed operation.

its not nesacceraly that its not realiable.. It only works if you play a directory, inserting any tracks during the life of the playlist will disable this, as will moving tracks around (i think).

Well, if it hangs the player, I'd definitely call it "unreliable".  :)

I use the feature frequently and never have had it cause a crash.  On an iRiver iHP-140.

This or a _very_ similar issue has been reported in FS#6904

Sorry to answer so lately, I was not there for 5 days...

Yes, it seems to be the bug FS#6904.

I have tried to reproduce the bug with an exact method but I failed to do it during more than 15 minutes.
It happens 4 or 5 times during this laps of time. Even with the today last build.

I was thinking it was the option "the 1st pressed button enable backlight only" which do the problem but it's not the case.

Perhaps the bug is only reproducible after some seconds of played music because (it's not sure) but when I excited myself on the buttons, nothing happened and when I let the player play a music during few seconds and do the trick, it happened more often.

And in fact, I use this function rarely (because I can't survive with no music and a hanged player :) )  and it was quite always that it hangs on the first try.

I hope it will be useful...

I will post my config file on the bug report if it could help....

edit (perhaps it will help more) : when the "next directory" function is activated, the tag informations are read for the 1st track of the next directory but the player hang sometimes after having displayed the duration time (3:30/3:30), sometime before (time displayed 0:00/0:00). But the next track tag info are never read.

edit 2 : it hangs even with the default settings...
