Title: BlurPod (iPod 5G)
Post by: SliMM on June 09, 2007, 02:51:10 PM
Hello. I have just posted a new theme in the wiki called BlurPod:
http://www.rockbox.org/twiki/bin/view/Main/WpsIpod5g#BlurPod
Here you can make suggestions/feature requests or post bugs.

Thanks. :)

I really like this, especially the edges around your icons. I also like the colors you've used inside the icons. A very clean and appealing theme, I can see this one becoming popular. The layout reminds me of escape pod (a good thing). There is also some potential for an album art version. Could you provide the .psd source, I'd like to change the bg?

I'll post the psd tommorow, I'm not home now. The layout is inspired from Escape Pod, a theme that I like very much. I hope that some sort scrolling margins thingie will soon be included in the SVN. (maybe SVN AlbumArt will help a bit).

I did this because I wanted a badge, and a "coder" badge is pretty difficult to get. :P

I have attached the PSD source in the wiki, you can get it from there.

Wowser, thats a fine WPS. I might even go and declare it as the best looking WPS for standard build. Little thing though, I reckon the font could be a clearer one, thats based on seeing it on screen not on my rockbox though.

Thank you for making such a wonderful wps that doesn't need a custom build

This is really nice, if you weren't planning on it, perhaps I could try to port it to the gigabeat?

BigMac: Please, feel free to port it to gigabeat. Use the PSD for the layer style :)

psycho_maniac: I don't like themes for custom builds, because I want my build to be up to date. The scrolling margins would make this theme even better, but it works fine without it. I'll wait for the viewports.

jambamkin: I chose this font because it has quite good unicode support. The total line height is 15 px, so i think a nimbus 12-13 would work fine.

I really like this theme!  With your permission I'd like to up an album art version of this.  Granted that would involve the album art, bmp resize, and scrolling margins patches but those patches are generally very stable and I'm sure all three will be accepted in time.

Don't be so sure; it isn't just about stability.  It has to be done the right way both in terms of concept and coding.

That's why they're on flyspray getting sorted out.  I can't imagine album art and scrolling margins not being in our future.  Come to think of it, I can't imagine multifont not being in our future either, just not the near future.

The desirability of them is irrelevent.  I'm sure somone sometime will implement the feature, it just might not be using with the current patches at all if they are not written in the right way.  It may require someone to completely recode the feature.

If you're that concerned about album art not being implemented right you should come over to flyspray and contribute to the effort, that's the purpose of flyspray.

Of course you can make an album-art version. :)

It took me long enough..  I think it was harder for me to modify the wiki than it was to modify that theme.. ;)

Why didn't you cut a whole in the layout so you could have roughly the same effect as the other graphic elements at the cover art? (exept the shadow over the album art image, that can't be easily done)

Just like to comment on that, I have realized that my modifications to the wiki have made it significantly more difficult to upload to. With the one of outcomes of DevConWest putting plans in motion to set up a clear concise set of guidelines for themes, and a proper (and clean) repository for them, I'm sure that almost everyone will stop using the wiki once this new repo (which may be rockbox-themes.org) is up and running.

The plan is to put large notices on the wiki pages saying that they are not to be used anymore (and possibly even restricting editing, although that would likely be too far).

The new repository will be able to be accessed through rockbox-themes.org, but the URL that people will likely be using will be themes.rockbox.org.

I have a few things added to my list of things to do before release (mostly backend changes), so I expect it to be out in around a week from now (although this can change).  As well, I already have a clear, concise set written up.  :)

Good idea, that actually hadn't occurred to me at all, but it would make the appearance more consistent.  I'll do that in a few days give or take.

Edit: @EvilG, I wouldn't feel too bad about it, in all honesty my problems have more to do with my inexperience with wikis in general than anything you might've done.  This is the first er.. legitimate open source effort I've ever done anything with.

This theme looks awesome. I just had a question about the bluring:
Why is the blured area darker in the WPS screen then in the backdrop? (or is that only my eyes?)

It's all about the layers.  You could look at his .psd file if you have an application that will do that to see exactly how it works.

It's because the backdrop has a semi-transparent white layer over the whole image. I did this because you can't control the position of the text in teh file browser/menu and a darker backdrop would result in unreadable text.

Also, because of the light backdrop, there is also posibility of some anti-alias with the icons. Try the icons over a darker backdrop, you'll see what i am talking about. :)

Hehe, ok. Thanks for the answer, it makes sense :)
