Title: e250v2 frozen on Connected screen right after installing Rockbox
Post by: chengdude on December 10, 2019, 04:02:11 PM
I used the RockBox Utility and everything seemed perfect until I disconnected the player and it just stayed frozen on the Connected screen with the blue ring illuminated.

I did click Unmount in the RB Utility and got the OK to disconnect.

Very stupidly, I did short-press the power button once after a while; I hope it wasn't before the installation had completed.

Reconnecting to the computer gives me the "USB device not recognized" dialog.

I have not yet tried a soft reset/force shutdown by long-pressing the Power button or the more drastic remove-the-battery procedure. Don't know the safest way to proceed, or if it's bricked.

Thanks to the experts here for any assistance and the good/dire news.

The install doesn't actually happen until after you disconnect USB, so at this point you can just reboot the player and it'll install when it boots up.

Sorry I may not have clearly described what happened.  The player was disconnected from the computer after getting the Unmount OK from the RB Utility.  It froze at that point and it's been sitting on my table with the Connected screen (frozen, not animated) and blue ring illuminated since then.

So should I try to force shut down the player or remove the battery?  Per the user guide, I understood that the e250 would turn off automatically, then you'd power on to complete the installation.

Update:

The battery ran down and the player powered off.  I pressed the power button and saw the SanDisk logo splash screen followed by the "Battery too low; system shutdown" warning.

I haven't attempted to charge it yet pending any further expert advice.  Thanks!

Yeah, I got that. Whenever the player reboots the installation will start, probably you'll have to charge the battery now to reboot.

Update 2:

Miracle of miracles...I let the player charge, powered it on, and it completed the firmware update.   Rockboxed.

That freeze-up really threw me, but happy it worked in the end.
