Title: "Playback Control" menu
Post by: saraj on January 11, 2009, 02:48:54 AM
The Trigger
=======
I was browsing pictures(lecture graphics) while listening some lecture mp3s on rockbox. Then I was distracted and missed a couple of lines about what the professor was talking. So I had to rewind the song to catch it up gain which meant several steps to go to "Now Playing" and go back and find the graphic again.

Suggestion
=======
So maybe Rockbox could add another menu list "rewind/fastforwad" under Playback Control. Hoping this is not a feature request.

The Reason
=======
1. Playback Control menu has pretty much all the basic song controls, play, pause, next, previous, even volume but lacking the rewind and fastforward.

2. And I found the "Enable/Disable Shuffle" and "Change Repeat Mode" function is kind of redundant since you can very easily long press menu button to bring up the "Quick Screen" which has shuffle, repeat, and show files options already, while under the "Playback Control" menu. So if the menu list can't be added can they be modified?

What do the devs think? (yeah I know since I can't code I'd better bide my time. Just want to hear the replies.)

the picture viewer lets you load the quickscreen? wierd...

anyway, ffwd/rwd could be added but the best we could really do is add a few options to go back/forward in say 1s, 5s, 10s, 30s, etc increments....

It's a feature, and you're suggesting it. I'm kinda confused as to why you're saying "I hope this isn't a feature request" when that's really exactly what it is.

Please don't post it somewhere else just in the hopes that it won't be one. If it's a feature Rockbox doesn't have, and you want to say it would be nice to have it, the message belongs in this forum section.

Yes. It's quite easy. and works on text viewer plugin too.
Here what I did, you can try it on your ipod or other player(though I haven't, but RB should work too.)

1. play a song.
2. select your pictures and view the picture.
3. "menu"+"select" to bring out the plugin menu.
4. select "show playback menu"
5. long press menu to bring out the "quick screen"

Quite handy when you want to repeat/shuffle. Hope you will like the little discovery. :)

That's exactly what I thought when I saw "change volume" under "playback control". No need fancy scroll bar to search, just totally like "change volume", keeping the "playback control" simple with basic play options, not bloating it.

I thought it was an improvement inside Rockbox, hoping it would not sound like "hey, it can't play xxx, why not adding this feature" or "should import itunes lists" or whatever. Anyway, I admit any change IS a suggestion. I just wanted to lighten it up. :)

Sorry, got it. Right now I'm quite happy with Rockbox now, get all I need. (I do hope some features but most people won't need it at all. So I won't suggest it and I can try to work around it.) But if I do, I'll post it in the right place.

Edit: Just reading the "One button delete" post, dislike the original poster said A LOT. He just thought of himself ONLY! Anyway, if the devs would like to add the feature that I suggested, I couldn't be more happier. But if not, it's totally fine with that. I don't want my suggestion sound like a jerk's request which I will definitely delete it. I hope I make a well-thought suggestion at least.
