Title: Gigabeat X full of problems
Post by: Gigabeat_Luv3R on April 09, 2007, 07:06:32 AM
Hi i have a Toshiba Gigabeat x. I have installed Rockbox many times and have had the same problem even after reformatting the gigabeat. My gigabeat always crashes and comes up with errors (every error in existence)  :'(

I have followed the instructions exactly and changed settings and have done a scandisk check to see if it would make a difference but i would still get the same outcome. ???

I have come to a conclusion that the only way to fix my problem is if someone could send me their Gigabeat files (including the hidden files) but obviously not the playlist :)

I dont know if this is the right place to post this Topic but if it isnt please tell me where to post it.

Could you possibly give some examples of your errors? It could be an outdated bootloader or something like that, but no one can be sure until you tell us more. Are they errors that come up when rockbox is running or before rockbox is booted up?

i get errors such as sometimes when i try to view a movie this comes up 'cant    open/.rockbox/viewers/mpegplayer.rock'. i get an error saying something about a model. I have put the newest bootloader and build but i  do not understand why these error still occur.

The only version of rockbox that worked on my Gigabeat was the recovery version of it found here:

http://www.mygigabeat.com/forum/messages.cfm?threadid=94E464CA-3048-2906-EA03C8BFD203A5A2&page=48

And sometimes for example if i try to go to the plugin folder it will freeze and i would have to turn it off then back on and hope it would work

Llorean told me that i could possibly have disk errors and told me to do a scandisk. I did the Scandisk and still had the same faulty results.

Try deleting the rockbox.gigabeat in the root of the gigabeat.  The binary is now located in the .rockbox folder, and the new bootloader could have loaded the wrong version.

If you're in Rockbox, which what you've said suggests you are, the original system files are not the problem.

What SVN revision of Rockbox do you have?

I experience no issues with my X30, although I haven't updated in a while...

There is now a known backlight issue on the X Series gigabeats for builds after 11 April...
Try the 11 April Build and see how you go...

Yes i am aware of the backlight issue. But the weird thing is that know one that has the Gigabeat experiences these problem. I would use an SVN build but i have to idea how to install it so i use current builds with the current bootloader and yet i continue to get this weird problems. I might have to wait for the next bootloader, i dont think it will solve anything but its worth a try.

Also the only thing that works with no errors is the 'recovery files' of rockbox that some guy made and i dont have any problems with it but when i switch to the current build (obviously not current because of the backlight problem) and current bootloader and all these issues keep coming up i can even barely view more then 10 min on my gigabeat. VERY ODD

But i must say the rockbox team are doing such a great job.
