Title: Files in MicroSD card aren't being shown in File Browser or Database on Clip+
Post by: Cartman500 on November 30, 2010, 12:03:36 AM
I have all of my files in the Music folder. I've refreshed the database numerous times. I have it on MSC mode and they still won't show up. Can anyone give me any suggestions as to what to do?

This probably seems like a stupid question, but does the microSD get recognised by the Clip at all?

Yeah. It recognizes it just fine with the regular firmware.

What do you mean by "won't show up"?
Title: Re: Files in MicroSD card aren't being shown in File Browser or Database on Clip+

I mean the files don't appear in the file browser or the database.

Yes, but you need to be more specific, so i can understand what your problem is.  What does show up in the file browser?  Is the SD card shown as blank or does it have other things like folders in it?

There isn't any mention of the MicroSD card in the browser. Everything in the internal memory shows up without any problems.

I think it's worth opening an entry for this on our bug tracker.

As far as I understand the problem now:
1) the card info is shown in menu system/debug/View disk info
2) our file system code does not "see" the card for some reason (sd card driver issue? file system issue? other?)
3) consequently the database cannot see it.

Perhaps there we can create some patches to try to diagnose the exact issue and fix the problem.

Hello,

I have the exact same problem.

With the Sandisk Firmware all things working great, but in rockbox the card does not appear.

In "Rockbox Info" is only the Internal visible.

One line below it shows:

"HD1 Not present"

I have the SanDisk 16GB microSDHC Memory Card  in FAT32.

http://www.amazon.co.uk/SanDisk-SDSDQM-016G-B35-microSDHC-16GB-Card/dp/B001F7AJKI/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1291222615&sr=8-1

I use the current version: r28717

Edit:

Mhh, i checked my card again and i saw its a Class 4 not a Class 2 like in the amazon link.

I apologize for my impatience (and my english), but i searched the bugtacker and ich could not find this error there. Maybe i am blind or something else.

I would appreciate if someone can write something about the current situation.

In the current version r28767 the issue still exist.

Hello,

I have the same issue since I switched from my 4GB to a 16GB Sandisk Class 4 from Amazon, too.
The issue exists in the Clip+ AND in the Fuze2.
The original firmware has no problems with the card at all.
ROCKBOX CAN read the card if you fiddle around with it long enough (reboot, reinsert). When youre lucky it gets recognized and then it works flawlessly until you shut the unit down.
When you remove/reinsert the card the SD-Card symbol flashs.

Cause the card is working without any problems once its recognized, I think it must be a timing/initialisation issue.

Hi,

I have the same issue with my Sansa Fuze v2 + 16GB microSDHC. I tried to install the current build to r28932. As of now it works OK. microSDHC is now appears on Files and Database.

This problem has been resolved.

Thanks.

Hi!

I still having this issue with my Sansa Clip Plus + 16GB Transcend microSDHC card !

There is all available for me debug information:

After powering player off and on card IS NOT detected. In these both cases information in "Debug - View disk info" menu still the same, as posted.

NOTE 2: Sometimes (if card is detected) I can see corruption of screen font bitmaps (digital garbage in place of letters), but playback of music still OK.

Hi,

I also having this issue with my Sansa Fuze.
I can not see the microSD in the file browser. If I transfer files from my Ubuntu workstation
to the Fuze, after 1-2 minutues the file system will be automatically remounted readonly.
I already tried a file system check and formated the card again. No change. Switching to
the Sandisk OS, the card seams to work fine.  :o

I am having this same problem. I have a
      Sansa e280 running Rockbox 3.7
Sansa Clip+ running 3.7.2, and now running r29082-110118
      Sandisk microSD 8gb
      Sandisk microSD 32gb

The problem is that the Clip+ running 3.7.2 or r29082-110118 does not recognise the 32gb microSD. The Clip+ running 3.7.2 or r29082-110118 will see the 8gb microSD

Running the original firmware the Clip+ will see the microSD 32gb card without problem.

Interestingly enough the Sansa e280 running RB 3.7, will recognise the 32gb microSD and the 8gb microSD.

When I insert the 32gb microSD card into the Clip+ running 3.7.2 or r29082-110118 the disk use symbol will flash up, but the word <microSD> will not appear in the file list.

Looking under Rockbox Info it says "HD1 not present".

I tried formatting the microSD with mkfs.vfat under linux with the option -F 32, to have a 32bit file allocation table, but that made no difference.

I don't see how I can delete my post. It turned out that I incorrectly updated firmware. 32Gb card works for me quite well with r29093-110119. Thanks to all developers who make this project possible!!!

While I was quite happy, I got "Divide by zero at 3080EB08" while listening to ape+cue . Kind of sad... I'll see where to report it.. I'm not sure if I'd get it with stable firmware.

I'm also having difficulties with Clip+ (AMSv2 variant 1) and Transcend 32Gb Class 2 card (SU32G Rev 8.0, Prod 12/2010,). I'm a newbie user and I have no coding experience for these devices, but I'd like to help at least by testing firmware/providing debug data. I guess FS#11798 (http://www.rockbox.org/tracker/task/11798) should be reopened.

I'll be very grateful if you check the stability of the player with my build. In particular, the normal operation of SDHC-card's hot-plug and absence of long delays ("freezes")

It may sound silly. Is it safe to extract a card while a player is on? There is no option like `unmount` or `eject`. I usually insert/remove my card while the player is off.

Stop playback of files from SD card and begin playing any file from internal memory and, IMHO, you can safely extract a card.

I tried to insert/remove card. Your build doesn't make any noticeable difference in my case (Transcend 32 Gb). <microSD1> folder seems to appear instantaneously for me with either builds. Folder is still there upon removal of the card, but it disappears when I try to navigate anywhere. I'll try to use your build for a while.
I'll be very grateful if you check the stability of the player with my build. In particular, the normal operation of SDHC-card's hot-plug and absence of long delays ("freezes")
P.S. With either build I get 25 Mb/s for microSDHC card, though it shows (in debug data) 50 Mb/s for built-in memory. I guess it is just the matter of the card class.

For the ones who forgot how to update (like me):

Just start the RockboxUtility and select the Tab "Install". Choose the option for the current build and go.

Thats the right file for your player, but the changes mentioned in that task aren't for your player.  Its surprising that something meant to solve a problem on a different device would help you.  Perhaps you should post your changes to the tracker and see if anyone understands what is going on.
Title: Re: Files in MicroSD card aren't being shown in File Browser or Database on Clip+

IMHO, problem is in SDHC card initialisation algorithm.

We do not wait reply from SDcard to CMD6 command, but should do this. In current versions we just wait for some timeout in hope, that card will finish initialisation in this time. Initialisation time is card-dependent, so for some cards timeout value from vanilla sources are sufficient, for others my patch with increased to 100ms delay is needed.

Algorithms in sd-as3535.c are similar, so increasing delay to 100ms may also  help with Fuze V1 SDHC detection troubles.

hey thanks for your contribution.

Is this a general problem for big SD-cards or are only Fuze 1 and 2 devices affected?

Where can I find the communication and data specification for SD-cards to check if the sequence of data exchange in the file "sd-as3525.c" is correct.  google won't help me :-D

I will help to fix this problem if i can!

It might be a better idea to ask on the tracker or IRC.  You're more likely to find someone familiar with the SD protocol and rockbox driver there.

Is this a general problem for big SD-cards or are only Fuze 1 and 2 devices affected?

At least, Sansa Clip Plus  is also affected (it uses sd-as3525v2.c file). But it is mostly card-dependent.

I found comment
Quote
"Sorry, seems using HS timings makes it a bit touchier. I've got the response timeout disabled and it exhibits the same behavior as before with this patch."
at FS#11140 tracker page http://www.rockbox.org/tracker/11140

Our current card detection problems are also related to HighSpeed (HS) timings.
And their roots may grow from FS#11140.

I'm also having this problem with my Clip+ (RB v3.7). New 32gb A-Data card is recognized and files usable by OF, but is 'not present' under RB. Also have a SanDisk 16gb card which is recognized/usable by BOTH OF and RB.

Quick search here doesn't turn up any significant issues with A-Data cards (which seem to be well reviewed at Newegg and elsewhere). A-Data card came pre-formatted FAT 32, so don't think formatting is the problem. Any reason why one card works and other doesn't? Possible solution?

Thanks.

Once I moved to 3.8.1 from 3.8 this problem disappeared.

Thanks Rockbox guys.

Hi
I have Sansa clip+4 GB and rockbox 3.9 stable. I have trouble,Kingston 8 GB MicroSDHC card aren't being shown in File Browser or Database. I have Kingston 2 GB MicroSDHC card too and it's ok. Sansa original firmware see it 8gb and 2gb cards, Rockbox 2gb only. What's up? any ideas?

You could try the current build, or downgrade to 3.8.1 and see if either work.  But since few people have reported this problem with 3.9 I'm not sure what else you can try.

I tried current build- not working in my card, So the best for me if I wait to the new release.
