Title: songbird foldersync rockbox-back-sync doesn't update rating/playcount (mac)
Post by: blouies on August 15, 2011, 05:08:32 AM
hi,
the "FolderSync" add-on in songbird works like a charm when it comes to copying/deleting files and copying/deleting/updating playlists.

However, the rockbox-back-sync, which should import the play counts and ratings back into songbird does not update songbird play count data.  I'm wondering if this has to do with specific settings. Also I see notion of a rockbox.js file, which folder sync has not copied into the ./rockbox folder on my iPod.

gear used:
- ipod G4 (clickwheel) rockbox 3.9 - ipod originally 'restored' via windows pc
- macbook pro, OSX lion
- songbird build 1.9.3

rockbox files are installed onto:  iPodroot/.rockbox/...
music is installed onto: ipodroot/songbird/...

any tips/recommendations are welcome as it would be great to be able to pull play counts back into songbird.

I have no knowledge of this tool, but maybe you need to export the Rockbox database before using it.

hi, thx for the tip!- but from what I can read on the forums, the updating of the play count should be automated.  That being said, if there is a fluid way of doing this manually by exporting databases, updating them, to then import back into the ipod/rockbox DB, I would be happy too. But I haven't gotten further than exporting database, opening it as txt file, to then use CTRL-F to find each individual song, to then manually override the play count, and import this file back at the end, which is a bit too manual for me. I may need to accept to do this manually once a month if i can't get the folder sync to work properly of find another good alternative.  I've also tried the workaround via last.fm scowler files, but this didn't work properly either.

I have the impression that folder sync should indeed be able to read the DB files from rock box to add these to the songbird play count qty. This isn't working on my ipod/mac yet, so I think there is sty wrong with the my settings or so.

Note that the Rockbox DB is not the iPod/iTunes DB. Songbird probably understands and uses iPod/iTunes DB, but I don't know about Rockbox.
Make sure Songbird is really working with Rockbox DB and not iTunes DB, just in case.

Banshee, for example, automatically detects my Rockbox'ed iPod and uses the iTunes DB to sync music instead of putting files directly on the player like Rockbox allows. It's pretty annoying to have to configure Banshee to not have this behaviour.
I don't know if Songbird has this problem, and if you ever get it to work seamlessly with Rockbox database, please let me know, as I'm interested in a music player that integrates well with Rockbox.
