Title: New Doom Episodes on Rockdoom?
Post by: zombieplasticclock on January 17, 2007, 07:20:57 AM
I just beat rockdoom on my ipod Video, and It was kinda short. I went to select the next episode (Shores of hell), and nothing happened. I tried the PC Version of Doom I had, and it said I needed to get the ful trilogy first.

Before I start buying stuff, can someone tell me if there's a way (By downloading WADs or somthing) to get the other 2 episodes in rockdoom. (The Shores of Hell and Inferno. The First one, Knee Deep in the Dead, is the only one in Rockdoom)
can Anyone give some advice?

You'll need to purchase the full version of doom - since the wad you've just played through is only the shareware version.

...So I take the wad from the full version, delete the wad I was using for rockdoom, and replace it with the full version's wad?

Title: How do I get ZDoom on Rockbox?
Post by: zombieplasticclock on January 20, 2007, 06:49:00 PM
Alright, I have some addons I want on DOOM, but they don't work, So I was thinking it'll be a good idea to get zDoom(version of Doom that uses addon wads)  on rockbox. does anyone know if zDoom is compatible with Rockbox?

zDoom is a source port. You'd have to port all the changes made to zDoom to the Rockbox doom engine.

I look forward to a patch then.

I sent an email to the makers of zDoom about porting zdoom to rockbox. A patch might actually be made somtime. I'll see what I can do ;D

Try some addon WAD's with doom2.wad. It's definately a great buy because you can play TONS of different WAD's and maps.

What you can do or what you can get others to do for you?

Go find Demon Gate. It's a collection of 666 wad files, and it'll probably make your addons folder really bloated, but it's worth it. I've not tried putting Demon Gate in, though, so I'm not positive it'll work.

:-\...I dunno. A little bit of both? my plan was to hunt down the stuff I need, and then stick it in my ipod and see if it works; and if it doesn't, I'll improvise

That sounds cool. I'll get that. btw... How do I use addons. I have a Doom 64 wad (it's a mod that makes doom look and play like the N64 game). However, it doesn't work. One of the lines of text states that Doom Shareware cant run extra Wads (or somthing like that). I'm guessing addons only work with the full version, yeah?

Actually, in my experience, addons like that don't even mix well with the full version of Doom. I have Ultimate Doom, with the extra episode, though. It may be because of the extra switch in UDoom's E1M1... But this isn't the place for theorizing.

For me, addons have usually worked best with Doom 2. This includes Demon Gate. There are some wads that play with the hud and the music and the like, and they'll work with Doom 1, but most of them change the first level of Doom 2.

That said, you'll want to select your game as Doom 2, and then load your addon.

What About Freedoom? I think the wiki said it can be used as a replacement for Doom II. Can it run addon WADs for Doom II (or even the original)? I've been using the shareware version of the original Doom (and addon WADs Don't work...), and a lot of people said Doom II Works better with addon WADs. so, to sum it up: Will  Freedoom run Demon's Gate, addon WADs, ect.?

I haven't personally tried it, but it should work.

Doom addons won't work with the shareware version of Doom. Most of the addon WADS I have work with DOOM 2. Just google up doom wads for good sites that have great wad files. I have about 300 addons that are all fun, but what sucks is that the DOOM 2 file can only save 6 games... :(

Addons work with the doom2.wad on rockdoom. Well, not ALWAYS, but I've found that about 80% of the addons worked, and I have ALOT of them  :P

Freedom can run addon WADs. If it's a total-conversion WAD (like Half-Life, Duum II, Western etc.) it should run pretty much the same as it would it was the real copy of Doom 2. If it's a WAD which uses the default Doom sprites, it may looks different but should play just as usual. I highly recommend Freedoom, it may not look just like the classic Doom, but it's good enough.

Yeah, I'm not going to bother trying to port zDoom on rockbox. The only reason I wanted to was to see if I can get out of buying the game in order to play addons. I was fiddling around with zDoom on my computer, and I realized that...
1) The Shareware version of Doom cant run addons, even with zDoom (neither can Freedoom)
2) Most of the features of zDoom (Jumping/looking up/down) can't be used on an ipod
3) too hard to port :P

Yeah, But you need the actual game to do that, right? 'cause I only have the shareware version of Doom, which I used in freedoom, and the addons didn't work. I only mentioned freedoom to see if it can be a way to use addons and get out of buying the actual game.
oh well... Thanks anyway.

Freedoom runs add-ons just fine.  Maybe you should read more about the operation of the Doom plugin on the wiki -- the page is named PluginDoom.

So the answer to your question, zombieplasticclock, is yes. download Freedoom and you will be good to go :)

I use Freedoom and it supports addons.

This is basically the same topic as this other thread (http://forums.rockbox.org/index.php?topic=8242.0) of yours.  The mods tend not to like multiple threads on the same topic cluttering up the forums.

I agree, and for that reason I've merged the two threads.

Please use real words. This means not things like "u". Our posting guidelines exist for a reason.

Because we have users who need machine translation for either other languages, or because they're blind. And non-real words cause greater difficulty for them. The rules exist for a reason. You agreed to them already.

I was thinkin about it, I'm not gonna bother with a zDoom patch, for a couple of reasons...
1: The whole reason I thought about it was to use addons in the shareware version of doom (and get out of buying it). However, a good friend lent me a copy of Doom II, so no reason for zDoom.

2: Most of the features of zDoom (looking up/down, ect) can't be mapped with the few buttons of most mp3s.
