Title: ipod 160gb
Post by: lileau on December 14, 2011, 08:12:45 AM
hello!

I bought a 160gb ipod and i'd love to run rockbox on it, but i can't figure out what generation that is and therefore if you support it. i checked with apple.com and all they are saying is: iPod classic 160 GB (Late 2009) but no hint to the generation.

so my questions are:
do you support the model I have and if not, any chance that you will in the near future or do you know of an alternative firmware that does?

the reason why I bought the 160gb version is because most of my audio files are in flac and i didn't even think of the possibility that flac was not supported O.o

it would be great if you could help me with this.
thanks,
daniela

160gb is going to be 6th or 7th generation.

There is some support for those in rockbox (see http://www.rockbox.org/wiki/IpodClassicPort (http://www.rockbox.org/wiki/IpodClassicPort), but installation is not necessarily easy, and there is no dual boot support (so you can't run the original firmware). The ipod classic port isn't considered ready for general use yet, although some people use it regularly. It's not clear how much work is still needed to get it to run well for everyone.
