well the subject says it all...
by large capacity I mean 128GB or above ...
can anyone recommend any machine like that?
would be awesome if you added and I would make and update a list of all options for consideration of others / all ...
thank you so much ...

I think the only option would be an iPod with Rockbox.

You were given one (which is in fact several).
An iPod Classic can have up to 160GB stock, and iPod Video with an aftermarket HDD/SSD can easily be 240GB+, etc.
Both options are cheaper than, and have a higher capacity than, adding a 128GB sdcard to a Clip/Fuze/<some_other_Rockbox_capable_player_with_removable_storage>. iPod Classic can still be picked up quite readily secondhand, iPod Video is a little rarer these days...virtually impossible to purchase a new model, but many second hand models exist for sale in the wild. Both have a 320x240 full color screen as well.

You could use iRiver H120, H140 and H3x0 line.
H 120/140 has advantage od optical in/out, disadvantage BW display. H3x0 has advantage of colour display and disadvantage of not having optical out/in.
Both are a bit bulky for these days, but still accaptable.
I have both H 120 and 140 with 120 GB SDD.
Another option is Sansa Fuze+ 16 GB and 128 GB card or two 64 GB.

I generally consider a greyscale display an advantage for a DAP, even these days ...

If you can even find one.

That is true. It true that greyscale display is better readable in bright sun, etc. But for those who got used to album art it is sort of disadvantage.
I know DAP is for listening, not watching album art. But, still. :)
