Title: Behaviour of button presses when display is off
Post by: cliveb on September 20, 2017, 12:44:08 PM
A little while back I updated to version 3.14. I didn't notice at first, and I'm not 100% sure, but I'm pretty certain that the way that button presses are processed when the display is blanked has changed.

On the previous version (3.13), I'm pretty sure that if the display was blank, then pressing any button simply re-activated the display, and did nothing else. But in 3.14, it seems that not only does the display come back on, but the button is also actioned. I would prefer it to behave the way it used to.

I've been through all the settings and cannot find anything that seems relevant. Have I missed something?

PS. This is on a Sansa Clip+, if that is important.

The setting you are looking for is called 'First Button Press Enables Backlight Only'
You can find it in Main Menu>Settings>General Settings>Display>LCD settings>First Button Press Enables Backlight Only

Relevant Manual Entry: https://download.rockbox.org/daily/manual/rockbox-sansaclipplus/rockbox-buildch8.html#x10-1400008.4

First Keypress Enables Backlight Only.
With this option enabled the first keypress while the backlight is turned off will only turn the backlight on without having any other effect. When disabled the first keypress will also perform its appropriate action.

Thank you so much. That did the trick.
I searched around the settings but must have missed it.
