Title: Chinese / Japanese?
Post by: cheziyi on June 15, 2007, 02:23:52 AM
I know that this might sound dumb, and stuff, but anyway, i love Rockbox, its nice, i can get everything working, just that my chinese or japanese filenames and ID3 tags, and even if i switch system langauge to chinese, all the characters turn out in boxes. I have tried many different themes, but i still get all the same boxes. Please help! Thanks!

Have you tried using one of the unicode fonts for rockbox?  A couple of examples are "unifont" and my personal favorite "nimbus+uming-14".

I don't know of any themes that use these fonts by default, but just select a theme you like, then change the font.  Sometimes they are the wrong size for your WPS and it doesn't display correctly, so you'll have to try another font or WPS.

Also, I'm not sure of the full list of unicode fonts for rockbox, I've only used the two I mentioned above and they correctly display my Japanese tagged mp3s.

Ya, i just realized my stupidity just now before i saw your reply. And ya, i realized the positioning of the words can sometimes be wrong. I'll find a theme that works well with it. Thanks!

Download http://download.rockbox.org/daily/fonts/rockbox-fonts.zip It includes Sazanami-Mincho font in different sizes and includes CJK-characters.

Nimbus+uming-14 would be great, but it is missing some very common Japanese kanji.

Oh is it?  I didn't notice any yet.  It's very pretty but if I notice it missing kanji that are in my music I'll have to switch.

I also noticed that right away. :( Besides, some of the characters didn't look right. Like there were random white dots around them...

Fonts are only 1bpp. They draw "Foreground color" or not at all. By "white dots" I assume your foreground was some other color. Or did you mean that the random dots were the same color as your font?
