Title: crazy unnecessary extra disk access on ipod video
Post by: ryran on March 04, 2007, 11:04:41 PM
I've been away for a little while--at least, in that I haven't updated my build in a little while.

So I just did and am blown away that I can find no mention in flyspray or here on the forums of a new.. feature. I added it to FS (http://www.rockbox.org/tracker/task/6735).

Is no one else experiencing these symptoms?

And these are clean svn builds downloaded from builds.rockbox.org?

Someone mentioned strange spinups in the IRC channel recently, but that was with a patch, and they went away when he used a clean build.

Oddly enough, it should've been physically impossible for the patch he was using to cause such behaviour (it was a plugin and affected no core files) but without the patch the behaviour stopped, which suggested that somehow something else was going wrong with his compiling.

Yes Paul. Totally clean svn build.

Just making sure. I know that you know better, but in the case of that one person, the only patch he applied didn't affect core Rockbox at all. It was JUST a plugin, with no API changes or anything, yet when he used a clean build downloaded from the Rockbox site it didn't show the problem. His rockbox.ipod should've, technically, been a 'clean' one but for some strange reason it was behaving oddly.

Okay, next question: Have you verified in the debug menu that dircache is actually active? Sometimes even if you've turned it on, and it's scanned at boot, something will go wrong.

Yes I have.
And it's obvious dircache is on, because sometimes the hard drive actually won't spin up when I go browsing. Anyway, I suppose I should keep comments to the tracker, so... yeah, I posted there.
