I have a second generation iPod mini that I updated the HD to a CF card several years ago. I have been happily using it with iTunes until this last release when Apple decided I didn't need to sync it anymore.
I downloaded the Rockbox utility for my Mac and the utility auto detected to mini, but when I go to install Rockbox, I get "Could not open iPod: permission denied". I thought it might be the filesystem, so I downloaded iTunes on an old PC I had, but that won't sync or reformat the iPod.
Any ideas where I go from here?

You need to be running the installer as root/admin on most operating systems to install on the iPods. MacOS is probably similar.

I am an Administrator on the mac. I am running High Sierra if that makes a difference. Would I be better off trying to do this on my PC using Windows 7 (although VERY old)?
Thanks. Brian

I used my Windows 7 machine and got Rockbox installed. :)
I had a bunch of audio files on the iPod before I installed Rockbox...how do I delete all that old content so I can load new files?
Thanks. Brian

Browse to the iPod on your computer and delete the files.
