Title: Recording error on H120
Post by: bathtubcosby on October 17, 2006, 11:01:02 AM
Hi all, I am in a bind! I have to record to tonight and I am off to work now, so I appologise for not scouring the FAQ's and searching the board, however I did not see a similar topid in this section...

Iriver H-120...I have about 14 gig of mp3's on it, some Wav and flac files too. I've been recording with it a lot and It would work great....until last night when I tried running it and after 7 seconds of recording it would stop dead with the error: "Disc full, stopping recording" or something similar to that. I hooked 'er up to the computer to confirm that I had emtied the Recording folder after last weeks usage, AND to confirm that there is sill 4 gig free on the drive. Also ran a defrag and i'm getting the same error this morning

why did this happen suddenly!? Thank you so much for your time and help

Recycle Bin full? There can still be one if you are deleting your files using Windows.

hmmm, no I dont think so. I'm using XP and there is no recycle bin in my iriver drive...even if there was, wouldn't those files be included in the total Used/Free space on the drive??

The curious thing is, I just used it last week and it worked well...I moved the files on to my laptop as per usual...I did nothing out of the ordinary

Boot up your unit, go into the menu, choose "Info" at the bottom, then Rockbox Info, and click the Navi button. It should say "Scanning Disk" and after that Rockbox should report the proper space free again.

Windows is unreliable at properly updating that value. While windows will know the proper amount free, it apparently updates it in an incorrect way so sometimes Rockbox won't know.

Hi! Thanks llorean!!! Funny you should mention that, as I JUST checked the rockbox info!!! It says only 119mb free...

However it displayed that without me having to press the "Navi" button. Btw, what is the Navigation button....Record/Play/A-B do nothing, while pressing stop or pressing the central joystick just acts as a "back" button

Click the central joystick in, but make sure not to wiggle it at all.

Hmmm, that doesn't do anything. When I'm viewing the info, the joystick button returns me to the previous screen. holding it does nothing. Highlighting "rockbox info" and holding the button changes the screen to show its info but as I continue to hold, nothing happens either.

Select "Rockbox Info" so that you're on the screen that says:

Rockbox Info:

Buffer: blah
Something%   Xh Ym
Disk: Blah
Free: Blah

And once you're ON that screen, click the stick in while centered. Do not hold, just push and release.

i'm sorry this just isn't working  Llorean...I fully understand what I need to do, however pressing the navi button simply returns me to the previous screen. and i'm positive that i'm pressing it inwards and not in any direction.

And this is with an official recent Rockbox build?

Because I have an H120 in my hands, with a build less than 12 hours old on it, and can accomplish this without a problem.

If it's just exiting the info screen, then you must have a pretty old version of Rockbox...disk scan function was added back in May. Try a daily or cvs build.

Also, maybe try the DiskTidy plugin to clean up things.

Nope, old build 060313-2033.

I guess that means I have to update...which I dont know how to do (reading instructions now.

What are the differences between CVS, Daily, or "realeases" builds?

Thanks for the help, I appreciate it.

Alright, I've updated and everything is back to normal!

Thank you so much for all your help.  LarryLlama walked me through the bulk of getting my recording stuff back in order, so major props to him.

WRONG.
You have to press play to make is scann the disk again. at least that's how it works on h3x0, I think h1x0 is the same.

On the H1x0 it's either joystick-select or play.

I tested it before I typed the message. It is the Navi button on H1x0, I'm 100% certain of this. :)

That is very weird... So weird it just can't be true seeing as they share the same keymap file. Are you sure navi doesn't work as well as play on the H3xx?

woops

silly me... this must have changed with the action codes

indeed, both navi and play work.

You could always join us in the IRC channel, there's even a webclient to make it easy for you

These are things you can already check:
- if using windows: check that you don't have a recycle bin configured. if so empty and remove
- on your device: remove the recycled directory if there
- go to menu -> info -> Rockbox info and press PLAY or NAVI and check the empty space shown there is correct. If not, something on your disk is using the space, find it ;)

Guys, Disktidy!

It a Rockbox plugin that removes all the crap left behind by Windows and MacOS.

Hopefully one day it will be expanded to remove the crap left behind by gnome, etc.

It's wonderful, try it.
