Title: e280r with rockbox. can I still use rhapsody to upload songs?
Post by: timaishu on June 06, 2009, 03:46:24 AM
I tried searching for my answer but didnt really find what Im looking for.

I just got done installing rockbox on my sansa e280r. My motivation for rock box is so I can load lossless and other music formats onto it.

Here is my question. Can I still use rhapsody to upload music on my player and have it still work for rockbox. And if it does, will I have any issues using rhapsody to upload lossless file file formats? My concern lies in the fact that I can dual boot into the stock firmware or rockbox.

If I were to upload a lossless song, and then use the stock firmware. Would the song play? Would it make the player flip out and crash?

I've never used Rhapsody but all rockbox cares about is having files on the disk, so as long as they end up there it should work, though you may need to use the database in rockbox to actually find where Rhapsody stores the files . . .

Installing Rockbox does not change how Rhapsody or the OF work.  They're still work with the same files they did before, which is probably just MP3/WMA/AAC/WAV.

Doesn't Rhapsody involve and imply DRM music? Rockbox cannot play DRM'ed songs.

Im not downloading music from rhapsody.

Im just using it as a tool for putting music on my player.

I understand that a sansa does not natively support loss less or other file formats such as FLAC.

Heres what I getting at, Im quite sure that I can just make my own folders with my FLAC music and add it to my music folder manually and then play it with rockbox.

But, what if I were to try to add the same music using rhapsody instead? Would it even work? And if I were to boot into the original firmware and try to play the FLAC song, would the player freak out/play it/corrupt or what?

We don't write Rhapsody. We don't write the original firmware. What they do, how to use them, and what will happen if you try to make them do things they're not supposed to do are all off-topic for these forums.

Sorry. Feel free to move it or whatever. I thought this would be the correct section for these questions.

It's not an issue of "section." These are the Rockbox forums. They're for questions about Rockbox itself, not the behaviour of other software on a Rockbox-compatible MP3 player.

As you've been told, Rockbox doesn't change the way the original firmware works. Rockbox also does not affect the way software on your PC works. So any other questions about these programs are unrelated to Rockbox.
