I need help instaling a rockbox for the first time in my ipod nano, can somebody guide me
-
What part of the IpodInstallation page are you having problems with?
If you ask specific questions, it will make it easier to help.
-
the whole thing cant seem to understand how to do it
-
Have you read the IpodInstallation page in the wiki?
-
yes, right now my ipod is hooked up and my computer is windows xp dont know if that matters, what do i do next? what should i download
-
If you've read the IpodInstallation page, it tells you what to download. You've been here and read it?

i tried it dont understand, can somebody guide me thru it, do you have aim or yahoo?
-
The page tells you exactly what to type, and what programs you need to download. It really can't be given much simpler than that.
-
anyone else that can help me
,
-
What exactly do you want?
The page tells you exactly what to type. The only thing a human being could do more for you is to come to your house and type it in for you.
-
well im not a nerd, i cant get command prompt thingy to work
-
Well, unfortunately it can only be installed by way of the command prompt.
The instructions tell you *exactly* what to type in the command prompt, as long as you change directories to the folder where you've downloaded those files.
-
Microsoft Windows XP [Version 5.1.2600]
(C) Copyright 1985-2001 Microsoft Corp.
C:\Documents and Settings\Owner>
thats what i get and im supposed to get
C:\rockbox directory (type C: and press enter, then type "cd \rockbox" and press enter).
IM basically stuck in B)
-
Assuming you saved the files in C:\rockbox, just type
cd C:\rockbox
-
the system cannot find the path, i have the rock box in my c drive? im so confused
-
Do you have it in a folder called rockbox?
C:\rockbox means "the rockbox folder on the C drive." If you look in file explorer, at the very top in the part where it says "Address" it shows the same sort of thing.
-
rockbox or .rockbox
-
C:\rockbox> im here wuts next?
-
Hi, I've done the installation with the script from this topic:
http://forums.rockbox.org/index.php?topic=2801.0
Worked fine for my 5g on win2k...
Maybe this is worth raising to the wiki?

C:\rockbox> what do i type next?
-
cd C:\Rockbox
as long as that is where you put the Rockbox folder.
The instructions are pretty easy to follow from here:

Seriously, it's super easy, or get the script. I'm not trying to be disrespectful but it'd be a waste of someone's time to basically just repeat all the steps from the wiki...just follow the steps EXACTLY as they're typed. I suck terribly with command prompts and I got 'er done in one try, you can definitely do it.
-
If you can't follow the instructions on the wiki, which are in all honesty as simple as it gets, perhaps an alternate firmware isn't for you.
Not to be mean or anything, but if any issues come up, you're going to have to tinker with stuff, and it sounds like you don't quite get some basic stuff.
You could also use the batch file linked above, since it takes away your need to type anything at all.

dupontracer248,
I don't know how old you are, or what kind of computer experience you have, but if you have a friend or neighbor with any computer experiience at all, they should be able to help you. It isn't that hard, but you need to undertand the terminology.
If you want to send it to me, I will be happy to install it for you, but you should learn.
Basically, you need all of the files referenced in the instructions to a directory (folder) on your C: drive named rockbox. Then do everything in BOLD.
