When copy mp3s to my ipod with ubuntu I get weird random little snippets of other song playing in the middle of MP3s.
my ipod is a 4th generation gray 20Gb windows formated Ipod
The mp3 i wish to play are in 192 kbps format.
I am using the 08272006 build of rockbox, this issue occured in older versions too.
This is exactly what I am doing:
1) rip the mp3 to my home directory
2) view the mp3 with audacity, the song looks and sound fine.
3) copy the mp3 to my ipod via USB cable
4) view the mp3 on ipod with with audacity, the song now has a 5 second podcast snippet in the middle. ???
What should i try, where should i look?

I dont' know, but this has happened to me serveral times as well. I also use Ubuntu.
Just yesterday I had a podcast that had pieces of its own start spliced in again 5 minutes later. I never tested it before transfer and to transfer I move the files (shell prompt mv command) so I couldn't retest it, but I did redownload the file, move it again, and it was fine the second time.
Recently, I also noticed a song I liked had about 1/2 second of garbage in the left stereo track.
I do not know any reasons why this would happen, but you're not alone :D

This once happened to me a long time ago on winXPPro with an iriver H1xx.
Sorry I can't be any more specific.
It does not happen now and has not happened for months.

This is reported in flyspray: http://www.rockbox.org/tracker/task/5902
As I write there, there is pretty much no way this can be Rockbox related (at least not for Ipods), so it's probably more likely to be Linux-related.

I suspected that, it's just disconcerting. My entire library of music copied fine, (That one song was copied later) but it's happened with several podcasts, implying that it gets worse over time. I wonder if it has something to do with fragmentation of the FAT volume. I will soon be totally "defragging" my iPod by moving everything off, then back on (on a windows box, now that I've seen what Linux can do :D ) and if I go a couple weeks without it happening, I'll post on the flyspray page about it (Even though it's not a Rockbox bug).

Not saying this is what has happened in your case. But, this same thing happened to me. Turns out thousands of mp3s got corrupted on an HD. I think it was some windows corruption issue ( I can't confirm that the HD has died).
I went thru linux and moved all these files onto a new hd...and all was well for nearly all of them. So you might want to see how these files look in linux and re-copy them to a new location.
Best of luck!
