Title: toshiba F40 power question
Post by: 1yen on May 02, 2007, 05:52:40 PM
hello hello,

So here is a strange power issue I am having.  I will explain step-by-step what I am doing and what goes wrong

1)  With the toshiba on, I plug in the AC power
2)  I then plug in the usb cable (no dock)
3)  a usb icon appears on the screen, and windows xp shows me the new drive
4)  I grab my scrobbler.log file
5)  I unmount the drive from windows
6)  I power down the player

At this point, if I want to turn the player back on, the power button will not work.  I have to toggle the battery switch from on -> off -> on, and then hit the power button.  Of course, after this I have to reset the time/date...

Does anyone have any ideas why this is happening?

thks!

i'm having a similar problem. whenever i turn off my gigabeat, the screen goes black but the button lights remain on. then i can't turn the player back on without using the battery switch. i have the latest build that implemented the button lights as a default feature.

I have an F20 and am having the same issue...it is as if it is freezing during the shutdown sequence.

edit: I just noticed that if i tilt the screen, i can see that that it still displays "Shutting Down" only there is no backlight, also, the side LEDs remain lit

Ok, so i used and older version of rockbox (the last one before the side LEDs were a feature) and now it works like a champ.....obviously the side LEDs are not working, but that is not a big deal....I would rather or it to turn off properly.

Yep, I also see this on my F40 - the button lights remain on (with the screen almost unreadable saying shutting down), and then you have to flick battery switch on and off to be able to restart.  It seems to come after the button light commit.  I'll file a bug report.

Edit 2:  I've done some testing and build 13346 is the first one that causes problems.  I've added this to the flyspray report.  Anyone have any idea on what to try and change to fix?  I know Markun said that none of the devs experience this which makes it a problem, but if they could suggest a change to see if it works, I'd be happy to do builds and be a guinea pig!

I also have shutdown problems now. The screen turns off and it doesn't respond to buttons anymore, but I noticed it's not really off because:

- if the hdd was being scanned you can feel that it continues with that
- you need to use the battery switch to turn the player on again (POWER doesn't work)
- this morning my battery was completely flat and it had quite some runtime left when I did a shutdown last night

Hi Markun,

This is also what I am now getting - with Karl's latest commit the button lights now turn off on shutdown, but the overall result is the same - the player is frozen with the symptoms you describe.

If you look really closely, perhaps tilting the screen etc., you might be able to still see the shutting down splash like I can.

I am somewhat gratified that a dev is also seeing this, and it isn't just me!  Let me know if there is anything I can do to help solve this.

I also see this same behavior.  At least we have a dev who sees this.  Perhaps we can zero in on what is hanging during shutdown.  Apparently the backlight gets turned off but the LCD still seems to have power. . .   I don't know much of anything about the specifics of the shutdown procedure, unfortunately.  Still, it seems that this gives some kind of clue as to where to look for a problem.

I found the file which is causing the problem. I could revert the commit, but I want to talk to kkurbjun first about it.

I've reverted the changes for now until we can get it to work on my F40. Could you guys test the next "current build"?

thanks

Yes, it restarts normally now on my F40.

Yep, it now shuts down perfectly again.  Cheers Markun.

I guess then that http://www.rockbox.org/tracker/task/7132 (and the duplicate http://www.rockbox.org/tracker/task/7143) can be closed.
