Title: mini 2g: Data abort @ 0002F6E4 with CVS 61114-1652 and later
Post by: michael.conner on November 15, 2006, 09:30:26 AM
I tried with 2 different albums @ 256 (lame), it would crash each time within 5 seconds of loading the playlist.  An Ogg album (q1) did fine.  14 November daily build does not crash, however.

I see you also have a 5G Ipod. Does it also crash on the same files with a build from the same time as the other one you use? Does the crash occur at any constant time in a file?

Yep, the iPod 5G crashes with the same files:

1st album: crashes with data abort at 00030e24 at 2 seconds into first track
2nd album: crashes with data abort at 00030e24 at between 8-10 seconds into first track

Not the same exact point in each file, but within a couple of seconds.

I just totally (And I mean totally.  Reformat the drive, reinstall the boot loader (which I don't think I had to do), installed last night's build, set up my preferences manually, saved a config file, and then upon loading the very first MP3 in my playlist (I created an m3u manually, not a playlist via rockbox) it played for about 5 seconds and then I got Data Abort at 00030F18.   Rebooted, hit the playlist again, different song came up because it's on shuffle and then Data abort 00030F18 again.

3rd try, same thing.  This appears reproducable 100%.

***EDIT*** Sorry, I'm on an iPod 5G 30gig.

***EDIT2** First song to play on the 11/13 build did NOT crash.  So I'm going to leave it there for now.

Hello,

Just to say that I got the same problem on an IPod Nano, with the 15 of november daily build. OGG and Flac play fine, though.

Edit : Revert back to 20061113 build, plays MP3 fine. Thanks Yotto.

Mini and Nano are PortalPlayer based, right? Maybe the problem is with PP ?

I ask because, at misticriver.net, a few iRiver H10 users complain of the exact same problem with the latest few builds...

Getting strange Data Abort messages on the latest CVS a song plays for about 10-15 seconds then the player locks up with a data abort message

I rolled back to 11/13 build and it is working fine.

Out of curiosity, I'm going to backup and install those and see if I can reproduce the crash. Hope no one sees that as thread hijacking because I'm just reporting (other's) problem to (maybe) further target what needs to be troubleshooted.

Can you check for APE tags in your mp3? Load an mp3 into a hex editor and look for the string "APETAGEX" near the end of the file.

I think this might be related to my APE tag stripping commit on the 14th.  :-[

Actually, the two albums I had the problems with do in fact have APE tags from MP3Gain (I just checked in foobar2000).  I can remove the tags and try them again, if it'd be useful.

Instafreeze with APEv2 tagged files on my H10...

'data abort at 00030244'  running rockbox-h10_5gb-20061116 (the daily auto-build)
No freeze, it seems, with other songs that aren't tagged with ape.
