Title: sansa clip zip 64GB memory cards
Post by: 40apple40 on February 21, 2013, 09:16:56 AM
Does it matter if 64GB microSD is XC or HC if used in the sansa clip zip?

is either one easier to set up than the other so it'll work?

is it just a matter of formatting to FAT32?

i've searched & read other posts but seem to get conflicting info. some seem to say that the XC have to be set up in a special way rather than just a simple format. is this the case? if so, is it the case with HC also?

thanks.

There are no 64 gb sdhc cards. That larger is always sdxc.

thanks for your fast response.

i can now see that the mymemory website has a "misprint" on it (says SDHC instead of SDXC) - hence the confusion with card types.

could anyone that uses the 64gb card with the zip tell me is it just a simple format to FAT32 that is required?
some seem to have had to use special software or have had to use specific instructions to format.

thanks again.

The windows tools won't do it.  Search the forums, lots of people have listed tools that can do it.

i used this: http://www.ridgecrop.demon.co.uk/index.htm?guiformat.htm
And i tried a sandisk 64 micro sdxc card and it worked fine on my sansa clip zip (the red/grey kind).
I previously tried another brand and it failed, sansa wouldn't recognize it.  This was a few months ago.

here's an update for my question in case it helps others.

i got my 4GB sansa clip zip to work with a samsung 64GB SDXC micro SD card - yay!

i paid £50 for the samsung card (mymemory.com) rather than buy the cheaper (£41) sandisk card as i read about some having probles with the reliability of the sandisk one.

i first tried formatting using the H2format program & the command prompt but it wouldn't work for me for some reason (being in German didn't help me find out why).

so i formatted my card on my W7 laptop using Mini tool partition magic home edition. (google it & u can download it for free)
my card had an extra 100mB partition for some reason. I deleted both partitions & then created a single new one.
i formatted to FAT32 making the partition a primary one, not active ("none" was left in the status column).

it worked!!

many thanks for all the replies & to all the rockbox developers for a great alternative to the crap firmwares we get given as standard on these devices.
