Title: Russian Character Support and songs?
Post by: Fullmetal99012 on July 23, 2009, 09:41:54 PM
I have a couple Russian songs (in mp3 format). I know they play on the sansa's OF with Russian characters. However, when i use the Russian characters in the filename and tags, rockbox doesn't read them. if i remove the tags and change the file name, the songs play. I want to be able to have the song information. is this possible?

EDIT: I got it to work, turns out that rockbox didnt support russian Foler names...

Russian folder names should just work fine. vfat uses a unicode encoding (ucs-2) to store files and folder and as long as you use a font which can display cyrillic it should be fine.

Which font are you using and how (under which operating system) did you create the folders on your player?

To display the tags correctly you need to either use unicode tags (utf-8 or utf-16) in your mp3 files or set the rockbox codepage setting to russian.

One of the developers has an excellent resource on his personal webpage showing which Rockbox fonts have which glyphs:

Looking at that you can hopefully pick a font with the same character size as what ships with the WPS you are using so that everything fits.
