Title: Getting started, need some help.....
Post by: Olddaddy on June 09, 2018, 07:17:01 PM
So, I have an Ipod that I think is 5th generation and has rockbox installed.  I bought it online and am just starting to use it.  I managed to load some music onto it, but the battery died and had to be replaced.  Got it back and now Windows doesn't recognize it so I can't finish loading my music.  How can I educate myself a bit?  I looked for the manual, but did not see my Ipod listed.

Although if you are not sure what device you have, I recommend looking it up to make sure you really do have a 5th gen.

Thanks for the link to the manual.  I'm not sure which Ipod it is, the original back cover was replaced by the guy who installed rockbox on it.   My guess is the current cover is just one he had laying around.  The store that replaced the battery said it was a 5 or 5.5, "classic".........

The rockbox info file on your device will tell you what rockbox was built for.

So, anybody?  The odd thing is that I was able to connect the Ipod to my laptop, load music onto it from the laptop and all was well.  After the battery was changed windows no longer recognizes the Ipod.....coincidence? There must be a way around this.

What does your iPod show when you power it up? Have you tried switching to Apple Disk Mode? Maybe your computer sees the iPod then.

Maybe some cable was damaged during the battery replacement process. Have you checked, that everything sits nicely?
