Title: Sansa Clip+ with Rockbox 3.10 don't show up in Windows (don't want the OF-Boot)
Post by: hroder56 on February 25, 2012, 08:40:39 AM
My Specs are: new Sansa Clip+ with latest original Firmware (v01.02.16a) and Rockbox 3.10 Firmware installed via Rockbox-Utility 1.2.12. (bootloader v4.0). I have Windows 7 64-bit Home Premium and use MediaMonkey 4.02.

My problem is: I would like that my rockbox booted Sansa Clip+ shows up in MediaMonkey, but even Windows doesn't recognize the Sansa Clip+, when booted with Rockbox. Sometimes I get an error message (Code 43), sometimes nothing happens.

It seems to my this is not a hardware-problem or a driver-problem (which the "Code 43"-message could indicate), because when I boot the Sansa Clip with the original Firmware by pressing Left+starting, everything works fine: the Player shows up either as an USB-Device, when I previously have chosen MSC-Mode (Settings > System Settings > USB-Mode > MSC) or as a portable device, when I previously have chosen MTP-Mode (Settings > System Settings > USB-Mode > MTP). If chosen MTP-Mode the player shows up in MediaMonkey.

As far as I know, Rockbox is not capable of MSC-Mode, but as far as I have read some posts in different Forums, a rockboxed Sansa Clip+ should show up in MediaMonkey.

I goggled for hours, but found no solution. I would think I have the very similar problem as stated in this post: http://forums.rockbox.org/index.php/topic,33188.0.html. The Left+Starting-Workaround is probably not an option for my, because this way I could not sync my playlists.

I think an other similar problem is stated in this post, but I am simply not able to understand the proposed solution: http://www.anythingbutipod.com/forum/showthread.php?t=68223

I would be very grateful, if someone could help me.
(And sorry for my bad English)

Rockbox 3.10 didn't have USB mode enabled yet.  AFAIK, the current builds have support for hybrid USB mode consisting of HID and MSC support.  Be aware that the bootloader needs to be updated too in order to boot to Rockbox by inserting a USB cable while the unit is turned off.

Thanks for your answer!

Progress: I downloaded the newest build, and at least the player is now recognized by Windows.

It doesn't show up in MediaMonkey, though. I tired the "USB Hide internal drive"- Option in Rockbox, but didn't work.

Is "HID" (="USB-HID"?) the same as MTP-Mode?

(Btw: Thank you all very much for programming, distributing and supporting this beautiful piece of software)

No we don't support MTP.
