Title: iPod Classic 160GB - Won't go into DFU mode.
Post by: shayguitarra on August 19, 2012, 06:06:19 PM
First of all, apologies for posting this as strictly speaking it's not a rockbox issue. But I've spent hours hanging round the freemyipod support channel without success. So I'm just hoping someone sees this who knows the answer.  ;)

I had rockbox running on my iPod 160GB last year, but it was a tad unstable so eventually I just went back to my iPod video. However, now I'd like to get my 160GB Classic running rockbox again.

I've followed the instructions on the freemyipod site, but where last year I was able to get into DFU mode without a problem, this time round it seems impossible. I've tried it on different pcs with two different Classics but no joy. I do everything asked, but when I release the menu/select buttons after the screen goes black, nothing happens and I have to do a full restore through itunes to try again. I was thinking that maybe Apple changed something in their firmware, or maybe even there's a Windows update or some other process that's blocking it.

So I was just wondering if somebody else has had the same problem, and has managed to solve it. Or, if not, if they know what the reason is.

Thanks.

Edit: Solved it, just in case someone else has the same problem. Installation instructions are here: http://www.freemyipod.org/wiki/EmCORE_Installation/iPodClassic
Even if the DFU driver does not seem to complete, if you run "bootstrap_ipodclassic_itunes.exe" the installation should continue and you can follow the instructions as normal.
