Title: 3g Ipod help
Post by: antiproductins on February 20, 2007, 04:20:01 PM
so about 3 months ago i got a video ipod for a hundred bucks from a kid at school. i plugged it in Via my old fire wire cable for my 3G and it fried my new ipod. well i was kinda pissed so i went to apple. and found out there was a warranty on it the kid didnt know about and it had like a week left. so i renewed it and they gave me a new ipod for free. well the guy told me it was because i used a fire wire with an ipod that ws designed for a usb and told me not to use it with a fire wire cable and then told me to only use a firewire cable with the 3g.

well if im only supposed to use a firewire cable with the 3g then how am i supposed to use the 3g with rockbox???? THe 3G manual says that it doesnt support fire wire???

thanks
joe

It doesn't support the *detection* of Firewire.  This means that you have to manually boot it into disk mode when you insert the cable.

I've plugged my iPod into my computer via firewire (80gb 5.5G iPoo) and nothing bad happened, it effectively said "it won't work! usb! now! fool!" Something like that anyway ;)

Wow  ;D i never knew this 'putting in disc mode' either.

It now is recognized through firewire too, i even bought a dual firewire/usb cable to get this to work.. (Firewire would charge the ipod while synching, the usb cable would synch but not charge, the firewire cable wouldn't recognize the ipod  ??? so i eventually found a dual cable to be able to charge through the firewire (driver disabled in device manager) and synch through usb..)

I was a bit unsure about this, since the ipod was not recognized anymore in windoze.

I hope there will be updated versions for this  :)
