What operating system are you trying to install on?
-
Please post the output of the About / System Info dialog in Rockbox Utility (you can CnP from that dialog)
-

The Ipod should show up below the "Attached USB devices" section but it does not. So the PC doesn't recognize the Ipod as USB device for some reason. What makes you sure I: is the Ipod?
-
cos its 2gb...it has my music in it....has ipod control folder and everything in it..
-
How is the Ipod connected to the PC? Are you using a hub between PC and Ipod or are you using a front usb port of the PC? Still, the Ipod *needs* to show up in the list of USB devices.
-
Is it an MSC/MTP issue maybe? I have the impression that "Enable disk use" or manually managing music is necessary to switch to MSC mode on the iPod (e.g. you have to safely eject the player in this situation). http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1478
-
The iPods which Rockbox support do not have an MTP mode. The "Enable disk use" switch in iTunes just stops the iTunes services from hiding the disk drive from windows Explorer.
-
Would hiding from Windows Explorer also hide it from Rockbox Utility?
edit: On second thought, I doubt it. It shows up in Rockbox Utility, just not as a USB device. Vista strangeness?

I doubt that. Rockbox Utility enumerates all attached USB devices (using windows setupapi calls). In his case there are no USB devices showing up which is really strange -- it could happen if on devices are attached, but the Ipod definitely is a USB device.
How are USB devices attached to your computer? Is there anything else attached via USB?
-
its connected straight to my comp...keyboard/mouse are connected via usb..
-
Which iPod do you have?
-
Its a first gen nano
-
Yea, wrong question on my part.
Are you sure (http://www.ipodlinux.org/wiki/Generations)?
-
yes i am sure its a first gen ipod nano
-
Which iPod do you have?
The Ipod should show up in the list of USB devices regardless of its generation. As no USB devices show up something looks fishy there. Have you tried a different PC?
-
yep i tried a different pc as well didnt show anything under usb device either.
-
have the same problem, ipod nano 1st gen. tested with win7 and vista (both 32bit) on two different notebooks.
ipod drive in explorer is visible and accessible.
rockbox utility detected ipod nano 1st gen, but nothing underneath usbdevices in the systeminfo of rbox utility.
fast help would be nice, cause its the ipod of a friend.
thx
[update] me was told it is a nano 1st gen. but itunes said its 2nd. my fault sry.
