Hello. I've been using Rockbox for years with my iRiver ihp-140 with no problems (Windows 7 Pro on bootcamped 2009 macbook pro). Recently while recording my Rockbox started inexplicably splitting recorded files into hundreds of small chunks. After fruitless efforts to adjust settings I've decided to reinstall Rockbox fresh and I'm having trouble getting through the process in the manual for "Patching the iriver firmware".
https://www.rockbox.org/wiki/IriverBoot#Installing_the_Rockbox_bootloader_from_SVN
There are 3 sections to create the new firmware file:
1. "Descramble the original firmware" - this stage was clear since it explains the use of fwpather.exe
2. & 3. "Merge the firmware and the boot loader into a new firmware file" and "Scramble the new firmware file" - steps 2 & 3 are not clear because they don't explain with what application these tasks are to be accomplished.
Does anyone know what apps to use to do steps 2 & 3?
Thanks!

You don't want to do that. Rockbox Utility handles all this for you. Don't use that wiki page, it's only when you're developing the bootloader. Also, you shouldn't need to reinstall the bootloader.

OK thanks for the advice. How do you recommend I reinstall Rockbox fresh - as in overwrite the whole thing and start from scratch?

I would just delete the config.cfg file to reset the settings.
