my idea is to have an option to set the volume level at boot (as in vlc)
the reason is that sometimes you can set the volume really high (maybe you use it with speaker, in the car, and so on) , then some time after, you put the earphone, you start the player, and the volume is really, really, too high and dangerous.
i think would be useful to have an option that set the volume level at boot.
Thank you.

This is already possible.
copy the relevant sections of your /.rockbox/config.cfg file to /.rockbox/fixed.cfg
The fixed.cfg file is executed after config.cfg, so any values there will override the value set in config.txt.
This should probably be documented but it allows for a situation where a user could make a spectacular mess of their configuration and send otherwise avoidable support requests our way. I prefer to make users aware of it after they have demonstrated a use case for it, personally.

This should probably be documented
That's why it is! http://download.rockbox.org/daily/manual/rockbox-ipodvideo/rockbox-buildch13.html#x16-35600013.3.2 (http://download.rockbox.org/daily/manual/rockbox-ipodvideo/rockbox-buildch13.html#x16-35600013.3.2)

That link is now broken (as are all links to the html-format manuals).
