I've sometimes wondered once in a while how Rockbox users are spread out geographically, so I have created a little thing using Google maps,
which could end up being a nice map of Rockbox users.
So head on to http://rasher.dk/rockbox/people/ and add yourself if you
want to be on this map. It's fast and easy.
I neither want nor need your street address, real name, email or
anything personal like that (although you can enter your real name and
email if you like). Be as precise as you feel comfortable with.

I am going to assume you actually meant to have this read, so I moved it to the new forums. ::)
-
Oh yes indeed. Apparently I wasn't quite paying attention when I posted it.
Thank you.
-
Great idea rasher! Now we can have a crude estimation on heavy rockbox users. :D
-
Apparently the Central timezone in the US has a strong anti-Rockbox sentiment...
-
Apparent not much Asian users as well =(
-
Another idea might be to use:
http://clustrmaps.com/
-
Yep, Asia is somewhat dead. Strange, all the Otakus should be informed about Rockbox opportunity for their DAPs, especially iPods. 8)
Re: Central (American) Timezone - I guess it's less populated and additionally less keen of technology (technology savvy, you'd say :) ).
Unfortunately in my region (Central-Eastern Europe) DAPs supported by Rockbox ar not too popular. Despite economic reasons, guys like Creative have a lion's share of the market here, I guess.
Anyway, I'm waiting to get registered as a first user from Poland (there is also at least one Polish dev, Tomasz).
-
Wow, giant growth in the number users registered. The map is getting quite full, what with all this sticky publicity.

I'm aware of this problem, but fixing it isn't easy (especially considering I'm an absolute hack when it comes to javascript). If anyone's interested in fixing this (by dynamically adding and removing markers close to eachother based on zoom-level), speak up and I'll be glad to let you.

btw, hi everyone, i just decided to finally get over my fear and try out rockbox. i gotta say, i love it so much! its great, way better than the original firmware for my iPod nano.

thank you so much for writing this firmware everyone 8-)

I use rockbox, I had a bit of problems at the beginning, but it worked out. Not many people have heard of rockbox in alaska. Nobody knows what linux is. Nobody knows what firmware is. Nobody knows what a bootloader is. People call it ubs, instead of usb. Alaska only uses the popular, storebought technology. Why use the legal, warranty compliant technology, when you can void your warranty and use mods! ;)
-
Rockbox is entirely legal, and very consciencious on that point.
-
But it still voids your warranty. I even asked the guys at sandisk.com.
-
"Legal" and "Voids your warranty" are two very different things. It is 100% legal to void your warranty, you can do it at any time you so choose.

ok...but still, would the manufacturer be able to tell that Rockbox (aka much more than an alt gui) had been on our mp3 players if we simply removed it before sending our boxes out to the manufacturer for warranty work?

Hi..
First, I want to thank all the developers who worked hard to bring us all, such a great piece of work: RockBox!! I have been using it on my Sansa for only the last month and it is really great.. so much better than the SanDisk software which I used for the month before. I am still learning, poking around everywhere (except inside System -> Debug). I added a mSD after filling the 2GB onboard. I have used the cut-n-paste to move music files over to the mSD with no problems. I have yet to have any problems.. a testament to the clever, well thought-out design.

my sansa e260 is awesome with rockbox for about a year now.
plays lossless now.
accepts a 16gb micro instead of only being compatible with 4gb one.
battery lasts a LOT longer (from the added option to turn off the annoyingly bright wheel light.)
So i came here to say i love my rockbox. Though the equalizer doesn't seem perfect. Everything else is top notch. It freezes just every now and again but not any more than it did as a regular Sansa.
And where is everybody else. Doing what everybody else is doing. Buying their favorite color ipod, A set of "awesome" skullcandys. And paying for albums in 256 kbps... their loss.
-
In the U.S., and the State of Georgia. Was thinking of selling my old sansa e250 due to freezing and headphone jack problems, but with rockbox and repairs, I am now happy I'm keeping it, rockbox doesn't freeze at all and allows me to organize my music.

Out in the middle of the Pacific watching the ocean rise and temps going up.
7 iRivers, 4 H140's and 3 H120's.
One modified with better surface caps, one with Black Gate coupling caps, and one that I modified to have coax output on the input jack while maintaining the optical out.
I also use 80gb on the H120 and 120gb on the H140 and have an adapter coming to use CF cards.

Germany / Deutschland:
I'm using Rockbox every day on my Sansa e200 which is perfect.
(Can't really understand why Sandisk is not making an revised edition of this perfect MP3-Player.)
(But Rockbox v3.13 is often crashing/Dump when connecting to PC - thats a bit annoying.)
And Rockbox on Sansa Clip - but seldom used.
-
So simple settings/theme settings/font/ select font to change size.

I'm from the USA

It's been a couple years since I last frequented the forms, so I suppose it's entirely I posted somewhere far back on this thread, but...
Greetings and all that good stuff from northwestern Virginia, USA! A variety of iPods here.

Hi, greetings from Rennes, France !
Happy owner of a Sansa Fuze, Rockbox 3.13. Have a nice day \o/
-
Romania user here! I bought a Sansa Zip and immediatly Rockboxed it. Stunning software!
-
I'm from New Jersey (just like the John Gorka song says). I've been using Rockbox on an old Iriver H320 for a couple of years, now. I replaced the hard drive with a CompactFlash card. I have a couple of other players, but this is my favorite. I prefer to carry around my own music -- I don't like streaming.
-
United Kingdom. I still use my Archos Jukebox Recorder (but only for playback these days). I dumped the original software for Rockbox as soon as I heard of it. Never looked back, as they say. ;)
-
Lille, France.
Nice to see Rockbox has a huge user base in Europe. ;)
Bought my Sansa Clip+ in april 2011 and installed Rockbox immediately! I particularly appreciate EQ and balance settings (as my right ear is a bit weak... :-\) — even compressor settings now that I use it mainly for listening to podcasts.
Keep on Rockin' in a Free World! ;D 8)
-
I was wondering that, too. Great idea!
-
Mahone Bay, Nova Scotia, Canada is where I am located! :)
Mostly use it for just playing music - no podcasts, voice recording, or radio. But I find the database / media library system far better than the one that came on the stock Sandisk firmware on my old Sandisk Sansa Clip+ :)
-
I am from Gdynia in Poland :) I uwielbiam rockboxa :)
-
Oregon USA here. Sending my sincere thank you to all involved. This is the most amazing project, I've been with it since the original iPod. Now I use it on an IMod 5.5 gen 240 gig modded by Vini Rossi. Rockbox has given me extreme joy. Kudos guys ;D

Hello, I'm a new user of the Forum.
I'm in Barking (East London), England.
I had previously used Rockbox on a Sansa Fuze, which I recently managed to fry by charging it with a Bluetooth sender (for my hi-fi) plugged in and charging at the same time! I won't do that again. My previous install worked, but only on a functional level (which honestly was good enough).
I managed to find a Sansa Fuze+ reasonably cheap on E-bay, and this time I installed using the installer (which is included in the PCLinuxOS repository) and everything seems to be running OK. It's given me stuff to do during the Coronavirus lockdown and I'm having fun!

UK, from villages, outside of NW london.
had a iaudio x5 when i was a kid. recently a fiio m3k. also very tempted to get a xduoo x3 II as it now has rockbox support for usb flash drives :o ;D, so tempting.... aliexpress sale time too in some hours... hmmmmm only a few £ off... cheaper on ebay... hmmmm to resit or not to resit splashing £on it! twitching....
using my DAP for playing music on my diy boomboxes and sound systems. thanks to speed and reliability and low power usage and features. open source rockbox support is key decider for me to buy a DAP. without it i wont get it.
-
Finlandia.
I have several RockBoxed players: The ones I actively use are the Fiio M3K & Sansa Clip+. I prefer them to other players precisely because I can use RockBox with them, and being able to do so is an important consideration for me when looking for new players.

Portugal!
Rocking a Rockboxed 6.5 gen iPod. Its hard drive is almost dead, so I'll be modding it soon. Pretty neat little thing, not gonna lie :D

Australia.
Thanks so much all you contributors for some wonderful f/w, unlocking the potential of my ipod and removed the frustrating dependency on the over-bearing proprietary app.
I don't know what the expected lifespan of an ipod classic 6th gen is but I've been using mine regularly for at least 10 years.
I'm interested in what other users have experienced over the years wrt device longevity and if running the rockbox f/w actually improves that.
-
Germany, using Rockbox since 2007 on three iAudio X5, one crashed, the other two still going with changed batteries.
This is a wonderful peace of operating system software for an audio player which shows all it's potential possible in comparison to the proprietary originals.
A huge thanks to all developers and contributors of/to Rockbox.

Thankfully I won an ebay auction a few weeks ago with several Iriver devices ( 8x Iriver H320/H340, 5x Iriver P7 and more).
Of course not all are working properly, but it is one reason to deal with this old (and good !) hardware to give them a new life
and installing such a great software like rockbox.
Btw. I am using iPhone 5 headphones - good sound comparing to its used prices (1 - 3 euro at flea markets).
