Title: "powerpack"
Post by: lordearl on December 27, 2007, 05:56:54 AM
I read over in headfi that a 'powerpack' is required instead of the standard subpack to rockbox an X5.  (a) is this true and (b) what is a 'powerpack'?

I have no idea what a "powerpack" is, The standard subpack is what you need.

You need to be able to plug in an actual charger, not simply charge via USB. This may be what they meant by "powerpack"

Would this one be okay?

I guess so.

Please note, however, that you need the subpack for USB transfers when using Rockbox. Rockbox can not make use of the USB port on the side of the player.

I read over in headfi that a 'powerpack' is required instead of the standard subpack to rockbox an X5.  (a) is this true (...)?
By the way... reading the installation instructions in the Rockbox manual could have answered the question too... ;)

Whilst I too would not have immediately realised that powerpack means wall charger, I don't see any mention of it in the manual.

All I see is:

Quote
Turn the player off, remove the USB cable and insert the charger.

I guess this could say wall charger, but I'm not quite sure which bit is confusing you.  Perhaps you could point it out, or even better write us something clearer and we can fix it.

okay enough of the hostility...was just an innocent question. sorry.

Hostility?  I didn't mean to be in any way.  It was a genuine question.  I can't find which bit you are talking about so I can't fix it if you don't tell me where to look.

Incidently, seeing as I also get the reported e-mails, just for your information, I was in no way trying to be cruel either.

No probs - apologies for the confusion.

"powerpack" only confused me because of a post i read on head-fi. there is no reference to it in the manual and the manual reads clearly.

when i read the post "you can't rockbox your x5 unless you have a powerpack", I thought iI'd better check it out. i might head back to head-fi and set the record straight.

cheers for the help  ;)

Coolio.  If you do find any bits in the manual that need improving, do let us know.  We are aware that there are always parts that aren't very good, or need improving.
