Title: Sansa E250: [solved] "main_image write failed" - can't escape recovery mode
Post by: rasher on February 28, 2009, 11:10:00 AM
I have a Sansa E250 that boots into manufacturer mode. From there, e200tool recover gets me into recovery mode. In recovery mode, I copy a PP5022.mi4 file, and disconnect the 16MB drive. On the screen, the message "main_image write failed" is printed, and the sansa reboots into manufacturer mode.

If I also copy over a BL_SD_boardSupportSD.rom file, I also get the error message "bootloader write failed".

This all seems, in my eyes, to indicate that there's something wrong with the recovery mode, since manufacturer mode apparently succesfully writes the bootloader, while recovery mode can't. Is it possible for the recovery mode to get corrupted somehow, and can I repair it?

This is not my own Sansa, so I can't say for absolute certain but I'm told that it simply stopped working from one day to the other. There are no signs of physical damage.

Any help or ideas are much appreciated.

SOLVED
In the end, removing and re-seating the daughter board (http://www.anythingbutipod.com/archives/images/sandisk-sansa-e200/sandisk-sansa-e200-apart-3.jpg) helped, even though it was very firmly attached.
