Title: Sansa FUZE individual Key Config
Post by: towatai on October 21, 2009, 01:08:45 PM
Hi there, a week ago i´ve got an "Sansa FUZE 2GB V1" and the first thing i´ve done is installing rockbox. it works great but what i wanna know is, is it possible to get a extra key-config to change "volume up/down", "next track/ previous track"in hold-mode with the buttons.
on my Cowon D2 (R.I.P) it is no problem. at the iaudiopohile forums are patched rockbox-versions with special key-configs inside and i hope that here are some users who can help me. i don´t know how to change the sourcecode, compile and all the other stuff.. i´am a pure Rockbox user ;)

greets from Bremen, germany..

Unfortunately it seems these kind of features are not wanted by the rest of the Rockbox devs, even though they can provide significant usability improvements. The patches you mention for the D2 are unlikely to be accepted into the main build.

exactly THAT is the reason why I ask for an "individual build". rockbox is so often touted with the "infinite possibilities" of "individualization".  for shure i´am not alone with this request, and therefore it would be nice if there are people who are willing to help people like me. show people like ME, people who are ready to spend real money in this project, the possibilities of an free open source community!

It is a free open source community - the source code is available for people to do what they want with.  This does not mean however that the developers are obliged to create an individual build for each person, or incorporate all the changes that any single person might want.  That is why the source code is there - for people to do what they want with it.

I’m aware of the fact that not every single person here can take advantage of a personal developer for satisfying their wishes. I’m also aware of the fact that we can’t all just change things the way we want them to be, but because I don’t have any professional skills to compile my own version. I ask for someone who would be ready and willing to help me with my “problem”. This was not supposed to be a request to every single developer to kindly care about my wishes, so it is needless to tell me that everybody has the possibility to do some handicraft work on his own. Doubtless, I’m not the only user who misses this function, so I’m not the only person who would be better off. Because there is no forum like the “iaudiophile” for the Cowon-Player, unfortunately, where users with professional knowledge are willing to help others to grant their requests I am forced to post this here. From now on I only ask for helpful answers, which refer to my question and not try to teach me.

Not all devs are against it:

I also think it would be nice to have it on the gigabeat, where it's easy to press the touchpad by accident (the reason you want to have hold on when it's in your pocket) but much harder to press the volume buttons by accident.

Maybe some of these posts belong in a separate thread.

A "Hold type" option is a great idea! 100% Full Ack!

Yes, it would be useful.

The people of these forums think teaching you *is* helpful, both to you and the forums, because then you can solve your own problems more often.

Compiling a build is not hard, and requires no "professional" skills. Just basic instruction following capability.
