Title: [SOLVED] Rockbox can't start on my SansaClip+
Post by: Kevin Thomas on November 26, 2013, 10:16:01 AM
Hello everyone,

First, I want to apologize, because some of the words I will be using are not the "right ones". I use my Rockbox in French, so the names of the functions I use, or messages I receive, may not be accurate. I hope you'll try to help me anyway...

I have a SansaClip+ with rockbox, and it was working fine until now.
A few days ago, I transfered a couple of new songs on it, then I disconnected it (the safe way), and it was still working. Then I wanted to update the database (so the new songs would be "seen" by rockbox). But instead of using "update database", I selected "itinialize the cache".
Then my SansaClip told me I had to restart again, which I did. And now, when I start it, it says "research in process" (written on top of the Rockbox sign). And that's all I have. No way to use it now.
I tried to connect it to my computer, but it does not see my SansaClip anymore. I tried to shut it down and start again, but it's always the same.
Does anyone have any idea?

How long have you waited once this message was shown?  Sometimes it can take a long time for the database to build.

How does it behave if you were to power off the unit and then connect it to USB while still off?  Can the computer connect to it that way?

If yes, try deleting the database files located in the .rockbox folder and reboot.

I don't know you model off by heart, check the manual to see if there is a button you can hold during start up that will reset rockbox to default settings.

Thanks your answer,
I have tried waiting, for hours, with no luck.
If I shut it down and connect it via USB, it behaves the same way, and it is not connected to the computer (so no way to change anything in the files).
I will go across the manual, to see if there is a combo of buttons that I can try when I start it.

I noticed when I start it, that for a very short time something is on the screen (very quick, not possible to read it). I made a video of it, so I could read it though.
It says :
"Loading firmware
Length: 8B178
Checksum: 36A5B79
Model name: cli+
Loading rockbox.sansa"

And just before switching to the rockbox sign, it say the same, but there is one more line, saying : Sum' 36A5B79"

I never noticed that before, but to me it just means everything is normal. And I don't like that, because everything isn't!

Someone please help me!

Reboot into the sandisk firmware and check the disk for errors.  My guess is the file system is corrupt which is crashing the database when it tries to load.

I got it starting with the Sansa firmware (I had to remove the SDcard before, the database update would not finish, but it's a problem I always had with the Sansa firmware, so nothing new here).
Then, I tried to connect it to the computer, but it would not see it on the usb.
I tried many times, and twice I got the computer to see it (once with the sansa firmware on, once with rockbox on). But everytime, the window closed itself and it said the computer could not go through the files.

Sometimes I get this message when I shut it off : "Data abort at 300483C: FSR 0x8   (domain 0, fault 8) address 0x7369766C   pc:300483C8 sp:30088Clbt end"

I really have no idea what's going on inside this little box :-\.

Hello to all of my followers (I meant hello saratoga  ;))

I got out of trouble, and it has been quite easy, in fact.
I was still able to run the Sansa firmware (even though the computer would not see it anymore), that was the key.
Though the Sansa firmware is crap compared to rockbox, it has a very useful feature called FORMAT.

I juste had to format the SansaClip+, and it was as good as new! Then I installed Rockbox again, and right now I am transferring my music.

At least I will sleep well tonight!
