Title: Sound quality?
Post by: Hardcore on December 28, 2007, 01:07:30 AM
Read through the faq for the sansa e200 series but couldn't find my answer.  I have the e280 and I also have an older u2 from cowon.  The sound quality is much better on the cowon than my new sansa (would have bought the new cowon, but got the sansa for xmas).

Is there any way to get cowon audio quality from the rockbox firmware?  I like the BBE and Mach3Bass effects with the cowon.

Also, it seems like the sansa has a hard time driving my earbuds.  It seems I get distortion at a much lower bass level than with the cowon.

Thanks in advance

In my opinion, Mach3Bass is not about sound quality, it's about bass enhancement.

However, we are working on adding psychoacoustic bass enhancement to Rockbox, but it's only in the research stage.

Is psychoacoustic bass enhancement similar to like subwoofer effects?

WOW!

I had no idea!  I thought I would just install it and see what it can do.  Sound quality aside this is amazing!

Way faster bootup, easier to navigate, more codecs, equalizer settings out the ying yang, tonnes of themes.

And yes, the audio quality is much better.  For some reason with the rockbox this sandisk mp3 player can now drive the bass I wanted without distortion.

It's a little overwhelming, all of the options, but I welcome that!

My mp3 player finally has a bass/midrange.

THANKS!  Is there a donate page?

Ohh, one quick question.  Is there any way to keep the music playing while browsing the menus?  Mine just fades out ATM.

Check the manual, there's a button for leaving the WPS (Select) and there's a button to call up the main menu (The button on the "Down" side of the wheel) neither of which stop music.
