Title: iRiver ihp 140 Upgrades.
Post by: armstrongracer on February 18, 2017, 01:52:23 PM
Hi.

I've an ihp 140 in very good condition, standard apart from Rockbox (v3.1).

I'm looking to replace the battery with a bigger capacity one and whilst I've got the unit open, upgrade memory capacity. As I'm a bit of a SQ obsessive & all my music files are FLAC so I need more drive space.  Looking at the previous posts diy memory upgrades to this device has been going on for over 10 years now. Hardware has changed in that time (HD's, CF, SSD's etc), 128gb 10 years ago probably cost more than 500gb or 1TB would now.

So, what is my best bang for buck option? I don't really want to spend more than €100-120 all in (including the battery). I have the skill set to open the unit and change out parts safely and if required I can do micro-soldering too. I'm less confident with firmware, flashing, bootloaders, formatting etc but I can follow complex tutorials & technical instructions as I have many years robotics & automation experience, it's just I don't operate much at pcb or operating system level.

Also is a 2200 mAh battery the biggest I can get in the available space, smart phones pushed battery technology forward hugely in the last 10 years, there may be better options now.

Any help greatly accepted.

I'm interested in this too! Looking for guidance in bringing my old iHP 140 into good working order in 2018.
