Title: Database problem

Well I followed the instructions in the manual (ie, Force Tag Cache Update, then change the view to ID3 Database) and half of my music isn't there. Now, I'm sure that I've put the tags in correctly (since they work in the origional iriver firmware) but could Rockbox be looking at the ID3v1 instead of the ID3v2, which I haven't completed for all of them? Or is there a limit to how big the database can be? Or has the Tag Cache not updated properly? HELP!!!

Well, it depends, what do you have the tag priority set as in Rockbox? ID3v1 then 2, or 2 then 1?

As for not updating completely, if you didn't wait long enough before restarting that's possible. If you had embedded album art that can also cause an incomplete update. AAC files being present can also break an update.

As for limits, it seems to be 10,000 songs.

I'm pretty sure I set it for ID3v2 then 1...

When I update the cache, it always seems to 'update in backround'. Is there any way to force it to 'come out into the open' so that I don't shut down before it finishes?

And I don't have over 10,000 songs, so THAT isn't the problem.

I'll have another play around and see if I can fix it.

Well, you can check its status in the Debug menu to see if it's done updating, but I'm not sure how reliable that is.

The best method is to wait until no more disk accesses are happening.

As for the "pretty sure" you should check just to be positive.

Well, it was just as simple as it hadn't finished updating. But...its all good now. The debug menu (I can't remember which one) was pretty accurate, but it was just counting up the number of items in the database. It didn't have a progess % or how many it actually had to add...which made it a little pointless.

BTW there is a great id3 tag editer [www.ID3-TagIt.de] which - among alot of other things - lets you convert id3v1 to v2 in a sec. For your whole library.
