Title: gigabeat f20... Rockbox error: -2
Post by: dutaut on December 14, 2007, 07:40:21 PM
Hello all,

I was trying to get my GB F20 to communicate with my new computer (Vista), with little luck.  I couldn't install v2.0.2 of GBroom, so I downloaded GB v3, but still could only see my GBF20 as a HDD.  GBRoom wouldn't spot it.

Anyway, I messed about and deleted some files by mistake that were crucial, and ended up with the message "No system found on HDD".

I googled in despair.  I tried to install version 3 of the firmware but got the message "cannot update".

I then found your site and tried to install Rockbox.  I followed the instructions on this thread (http://forums.rockbox.org/index.php?topic=8927.15), and have now ended up with

"Rockbox error: -2"

This is far worse!  The computer won't even recognise the GBF20 as a HDD, so I can't access it!!!

Please help me out of this hole!

Cheers.

The bootloader has a USB mode.  Try plugging in a USB cable THEN turn the Gigabeat on.  If this allows you to use USB, you should be able to easily fix your problem.  Should this not work, carefully read  these instructions (http://www.rockbox.org/twiki/bin/view/Main/GigabeatFXPort#Gigabeat_Recovery_Procedures) to get your player recognized by the computer.

This is an outdated bootloader. You should use:

http://download.rockbox.org/bootloader/gigabeat/FWIMG01.DAT

With the old bootloader (which you have) you need to hold MENU during boot to get into the USB mode. If that fails, you can always get a USB connection by following these instructions:

http://www.rockbox.org/twiki/bin/view/Main/GigabeatFXPort#Gigabeat_Recovery_Procedures

EDIT: btw, why are you following the installation instructions from a forum thread and not the manual?
