Title: HELP Uninstall Rockbox on Ipod 120Gb HELP
Post by: thezrg on January 04, 2017, 04:22:49 AM
Well this is my first topic, so pardon my english and pardon my problem.
I really really need help, today i got an ipod classic 120Gb from my mom as a present, so i got excited and i wanted to make the ipod different, i dont like the apple userface because the album art its to small, so i decided to install rockbox so i can have another experience and it was everything perfect on the installition untill it crashes, so i freakd out and and got this stupid idea of Formating the ipod on the Windows Explorer, so i did it and got the ipod on exFAT format and everything, so i restated the ipod and the Rockbox sistem its still on it, but it says "No Partition found ... Bootloader USB Mode" i open the Itunes so i can like restore the sistem, but itune didnt recognized the ipod, windows does, it shows the ipod icon and everything. And when i try to uninstall or reinstall rockbox with the RockboxBotloaderInstaller it doesnt recognized the ipod too, i dont know what to do, and i dont want to tell my mom i broke the ipod she just gave to me. I read a lot of topic of uninstalition, but they all involve something called emCORE that dont understand, so i really need some help please! :C

First of all: please try to write your posts a bit more with "structure" - it's really hard to read your endless never-ending writing...  :-\

How did you put rockbox on it? With the rockbox utility?
What iPod classic / video is it, which generation?

With your formatting you did two things absolutely wrong:
1.) exFAT is not good, you need FAT32
2.) you removed your rockbox installation with that

Here are my suggestions:
disconnect the iPod from the PC and
1.)  Boot into Apple's diskmode (completely switch off iPod and then hold down SELECT+Play together until the disk mode is shown)
or
2.)  Switch to Apple's firmware by turning off the iPod, then turn it on and immediately lock the HOLD switch.

With 1.) you should be able to reformat it with FAT32 when connecting it to your PC;
  after that you can put the ".rockbox" directory on it again and it'll boot again in rockbox
With 2.) you should be able to restore it with iTunes after connecting it to your PC;
  after that you can repeat the installation procedure for rockbox

Rockbox bootloader USB is (in my oppinon) not very stable and you should not change the format in this mode.

Look at the instructions here (including instructions for switching between Apple and Rockbox modes):

(assuming you have a 6th or 7th generation device, the older ones are officially called "iPod Video" - but some call them also "iPod Classic", 5th Gen or 5.5th Gen)
