Title: Tagcache problems with iPod 5G -- Missing files, and "Update Now" issues.
Post by: lalittle on August 31, 2006, 10:43:16 PM
I seem to be having some trouble with tagcache on my iPod 5G.

1)  When I do an update, upon finishing I only get a few songs in the list (songs that were changed since the last initialize.)  Resetting does not help.  The only way to get tagcache to "update" is to "initialize" it again.

2)  When I initialize, I find that a lot of songs are sometimes missing.  Any given album may have 1 to 4 songs missing, or it may still have all it's songs.  I can't see any pattern to why some albums are effected while others are not, but it happens even to songs that have NOT changed since the last initialization -- i.e. tagcache sees the songs, then I initialize again, then it no longer sees them.

Does anyone else see this?

Thanks,

Larry

I initialized again, and this time it seemed to work (even though I'm not aware of doing anything different.)

The "Update Now" function, however, simply isn't working.  After the update, Tagcache shows me ONLY the songs that have been synched since the last initialize.  In other words, I rip an album, then sync the iPod.  I then tell tagcache to "update now."  When it's through, I reboot, and the ONLY album on the iPod is the one that I just synched.  ALL the other albums are missing.  The only way to get Tagcache to see them again is to fully "initialize" the iPod again, which takes a lot longer.

Bottom line:  On this 5G iPod, the Tagcache "Update Now" function does not work properly.  This has been the case for the last several builds I've tried, including the 8/31 build.

Thanks for any help or other information on this,

Larry

The same thing happened to me, but just rebooting the player restored all the files.

I tried rebooting a few times, but the missing songs remained missing.  I had to do another initialize for it to work.

Does anybody have any information on the other question -- i.e. the fact that "Update Now" does not seem to work?  When I "Update Now," the ONLY songs I'm left with are the ones that have been added since my last sync.  Rebooting does NOT solve this -- once again, the only thing that works is to do a full initialize again.  This problem has been the case for several builds now.

Thanks again,

Larry
