Try a different USB port and/or computer.
-
i have tryed all of them
but that thanks
-
Did you reboot to disk mode, and THEN connect, or are you trying to connect while on that screen?
-
i went to the disk screen connected it
-
Correct me if I am wrong, Llorean, but this would probably be a hardware problem with either the cable or the iPod or both.
-
shitty that kinda sucks
-
You can still try booting into the apple firmware via the dual boot feature, rather than using disk mode, and see if that works better.
-
I read that post completely wrong, but I will say this. Windows obviously can't recognize it, but can you still restore it with iTunes? It may not be recognized in My Computer, but iTunes should still be able to see it..right?
-
As Llorean said boot in the original firmware with dual boot and then restore it with iTunes.
Rockbox isn't only resident in your iPod's hard disk as files, that's why you are getting the error. The Rockbox bootloader tries to load the firmware and because it can't find one (you deleted it) it shows the error.
-
Exactly how do you dual boot?
I have the same problem.
Thanks!

That's covered in the manual.

Okay, so:
Long Play
Shutdown Rockbox
On shutdown, Rockbox automatically saves its settings.
3.1.3. Starting the original firmware
Rockbox has a dual-boot feature. To boot into the original firmware, shut down the device as described above. Turn on the Hold switch immediately after turning the player on. Once Rockbox displays the message “Loading original firmware ...†you may turn the Hold switch off. Rockbox will boot into the original firmware.
However, I've been holding the hold button for well over 2 minutes to no response. Am I doing something wrong, or is there another way to shut it down?
-
I think you're mixing it up.
Hold the PLAY button to shut down.
Turn on the HOLD button to boot the OF.
-
Sooo, I just turn the hold button on? And wait?
-
No.
To shut down rockbox (as in power off the play) press the PLAY button and hold it down for several seconds.
To get into the Apple firmware, reboot and then once the apple logo display, turn on hold. It will boot into the OF.
-
OOH!!!
It works now!
Thanks! ;D
-
umm so that works but it still shows up on the computer as a unknown device and i would like to put music on it any suggesctions
-
Yes, as stated on the front page - Rockbox's USB mode for the iPods is not complete - it is doing exactly what it should be doing.
To access your iPod as a disk drive you need to reboot into the Apple firmware or Apple's "emergency" disk mode.
This is no longer an install question and let us please take further discussion along this vein into the appropriate forum.
