Sorry if this is the wrong place, but:
http://www.bigpockets.co.uk/product.php?product=SANDISK056
Just ordered 2 - seemed cheap enough to take a punt on. The reviews mention Rockbox as compatible, but opinions seem to differ as to the compatibility of various microSD(HC) and capacities.
EDIT: As others have already confirmed, these seem to be V1's - certainly I have RockBox going on one of them as we speak. It plays nicely with a 2Gb Sandisk MicroSD card (7.99 delivered from play.com). Any reports of larger capacities working would be useful.
-
I added a "£" to the subject, FWIW.
Oops, good point, thanks.

I don't know if anyone can really guarantee that they won't be v2 models, which won't work with Rockbox. And the word on the street is that SDHC cards up to 32GB will work with Rockbox, although at the moment you'll need to put files on the card using a reader/writer because the Sandisk firmware doesn't support SDHC and the Rockbox firmware doesn't currently have USB support. Phew, long sentence.

I realise it's a risk but I have my hopes as:
1) The site in question claim it's part of a £2m bankrupt stock clearance - with any luck, and if it isn't just the usual sales pitch, a pointer to an older model
2) One of the reviews has claimed success with a purchase, so at least one of them was v1.
Fingers crossed

That really doesn't tell much. Many people have reported that sites have mixed the two as one product and so you could end up with either one.

Of course, it has already been acknowledged that it is a gamble. However, for 13 quid it is a gamble I'll take. Cheers for the heads up seani.

I ordered one of these, and it has just arrived this morning - a V1.
EDIT: Just to clarify, I ordered the FM model (the site also sells the non-FM versions)
-
Excellent news - the ones I ordered may be at home when I get back tonight.
I'm just wondering what else they'll be offerning (they hint at other things to come) - knowing my luck it will be the E series player... ;-)
13GBP for a rough use, non-HDD companion, for the iRiver is certainly a bargin - thanks for the pointer.
EDIT: They are here, and the Rockbox utility is the business!
So now who knows of a cheap source for micro SDHC cards... 7Day Shop have 4Gig for about the same price as the player - VAT free

I ordered one of those about an hour ago ! I'm certainly hoping it'll be a v1...

MarcGuay, are there reliable reports that microSDHC is supported using Rockbox on a V1 C240?
In other words, is the lack of microSDHC support in a vanilla V1 C240 a result of an omission in the stock firmware, or are there insurmountable hardware differences?
Anyone who can reliably shed light on this who can comment?

SDHC work under Rockbox.

If someone from germany is ordering, I might be interested, but for just one device the shipping costs are almost as high as the device itself. Also, I don't have a credit card.
So, any germans interested in buying a few sansas together?
With 4 to 5 participants this would be about 23€ each (19€ without radio), including the costs to distribute them locally.

Note that you don't need a credit card - you can use PayPal - and that's exactly what I did.
